Anyone on pins waiting for school allocations for September 2023?

Hey, wondering if there's any fellow parents anxiously waiting for their child's secondary school allocation ready for this coming September?

Fancy a thread we can all chat about it?

Not sure what other LEAs do, but ours we find out 1st March, from 3 options (or we get none of those and just get given whatever). Not sure if emails come quicker than 1st March.

We also have an application in to a school which sort of straddles the LEA in that the application is separate, but still part funded by LEA as long as it meets diversity/deprivation intake targets. So we hear about that at the end of this month.

Anyone anxious that the school they want isn't the school their child particularly wants?

Yep. I hate the waiting. I don't really get why we have to wait so long. Surely it's an algorithm that works it all out.... What's the wait for?

We want our (oversubscribed) catchment school. The next school along is in Needs Improvement. Some kids from my DCs class are shit scared of the Needs Improvement school and have whipped the whole class into a frenzy. I'd like to know what I'm working with so I can prep my DC. I don't want them to be scared.

Yeah I'm not sure why the wait either. I wonder if it's to do with Looked After children or those with ECHIPs (sp)? Maybe budget's etc and doc reports etc have a date they get submitted?

National offer day is just that - everyone finds out on that day. Some however are released at mightnight, some in the morning, some mid afternoon and some (like London) after 5pm. everyone finds out on the day though - not the day before or the day after.

My DS has got a place at his preferred school thanks to getting a place through a Specialist Test. It doesn't stop me worrying that I've filled in the form incorrectly or that the system work the way it should do and we miss out due to distance. A lot of overthinking!

In London we don't find out until 5pm on the 1st so a lot of finger biting on that day

1st March is offers day in England. Some areas are earlier in the day than others.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/01/2023 12:29

Wonder how we find out what time our area usually is?

So March 1st is national offer day however my son's new school seem a bit excitable and wanted to sort some admin out last week so rang us to confirm some info so we know what school he is going to already!

Manchester LA emails go out around 8-9am. Some LA portals update at midnight.

It will probably be the same time as you received the Primary school allocation, if you can remember 😉

louise5754 · 16/01/2023 12:36

Not necessarily worried as my eldest is already there plus it's out catchment but you never know so I'm still a bit anxious.

Beachhutnut · 16/01/2023 12:38

Anxious here. No guarantees of a place at our first choice. Also not a fan of waiting!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/01/2023 13:04

My dc first choice isn't mine and dh first choice so someone in the house is going to have to adjust to whatever school they get.
