Have you moved your child to a new secondary school mid year? Advice needed

This is my first post so please bear with me. My child is near the top of the waiting list for Kingsdale School in Dulwich southeast London. He had some issues in his first year at his current secondary school but seems to be reasonably settled now. However, Kingsdale has a very good reputation and academically is probably a better fit for him so if a place were to come up we'd have to give it serious consideration. If you're a parent with a child at KS please let me know your thoughts. Even if you're not but have done a similar switch elsewhere how did it go and what should I ask the school etc? Any help much appreciated.

PS: I realise he may stay near the top of the list and never get in but just in case (apparently you have to decide quickly)!
PPS: GCSEs are still a fair distance away so he'd have time to settle in.

@Biscuits01 you may want to start your own thread to generate some responses. given that the issue raised by the OP is rather different.

@Norgirl71 we did this for primary. One of the things that help in the decision was to ask the school which experience they had in dealing with this situation and which arrangements they would put in place to monitor and engage with us if needed.

We'll do that. Thank you
