Hampton 10+ 2022

Hi. My son sat the Hampton 10+ last weekend. Does anyone know how many boys sat the exam this year or when we should hear about interviews (which I know are on 21/22 Nov)? Looking on mumsnet for last year I guess we might hear quite soon - but there were so many sitting the exam I’m not holding my breath!

its true that lots accept the places at 10+ and then reject the following year if a better option comes up. Like PP says it would be a waste of school’s time to award bursaries at 10+ stage. I’m not quite sure why they make them do 11+ though when they could assess for bursary at that stage without taking the exam. I’d be tempted to pay the deposit anyway if you can so you have the place secured but make it clear to the school you will only be taking it if you get a bursary. It is at the school’s discretion whether they award the bursary next year but if they want your son you’re in with a good chance. And in the meantime apply for other schools including Tiffin (Hampton hate losing boys to Tiffin!)

Remember also Hampton sometimes award a combination on scholarship/bursary so this is another reason they don’t commit to bursaries at 10+ because the boys might be potentially awarded a scholarship which would result in less of a bursary (I’m guessing they are two separate pots of funding).

I agree with Christmascactu. When kids sit for the 11 plus it’s a level playing field. Kids who had the advantage of taking the 10 plus are either very clever or started early preparing for the exam and have a years advantage in terms of preparation. So when the rest of the crowd play catch up I am going to use the time to enrol my son in other extra sports activities and also hone his math and eng skills to be at the top of his cohort . Learning never goes waste. My ds might sit the exam for scholarship if he feels he is still at his best. Speaking to a lot of parents kids need to peak at the right time. It’s very easy to lose momentum and be a bit complacent once you have secured a place. The full study drive dwindles a bit. I clearly saw it in myself once he made it through. Let him lose now to enjoy his life and play video games

Could not be more true. DS is compensating himself by more toys and paper planes!😉
