Dear all,

We have applied for in-year admission at a grammar school for our boy and the school has arranged us an admission test on a school day. So on that day our kid will have to take leave from his current school to attend the test.

We'd like to ask, how should we approach this?

  1. should we tell our existing school that we'll have to attend an admission test at another school so our kid will have to take leave that day?
  2. Or, should we tell our existing school that we'll have some family matters and ask for a day off?
  3. Or, should we tell our existing school that the kid's not feeling well that day and ask for a day off?

Please, we'd appreciate it very much for any advises.

Thank you!

Say you are visiting another school. They won't care either way! Schools don't take it personally if you leave , you know!

I have done this and been honest- also normally the grammar school have a form where a photo needs to be attached which needs to be verified by the current school to confirm it is the student

When dd had an audition for a performing arts school I just told her current primary she was attending an assessment day for a potential secondary school.

You tell them the truth. There will be a 'reason for absence' code for the register that they need to put in. Attending a test for another school probably has its own code letter and will be an authorized absence.

Tell the truth.
