My DD is at a London co-ed school which I think if she got the grades would like to stay at - but I imagine that I should apply to a couple of others just in case.

is this like the Year 7 process where you go and look at local schools and just put them on your list ? Is it a list in order of preferences?

Im googling and just trying to find out some information so as to sort this out.

Im not originally from UK and first child doing this.

If anyone had some good tips from doing the would love to hear.

Hi My ds is in Yr 13. His state school didn't have a 6th form so he had to move.
He applied directly to two, a college and a state school that had a 6th form. Had to complete an application form had a short phone or Teams call (in covid times it was previously face to face). I think they got a reference from his school. Got offered both places accepted both. After Gcse result day confirmed one and declined the other.
So not done through the council you contact and deal with the school/college direct.

Thank you for that @Tree543 - that makes sense - so you apply directly and then receive offers / wait for actual results.

Do most people apply to 2-3

We are ruralish so didn't have many options so only applied to two. We all preferred the 6th firm so only applied to the college as a back up. Like you I was a bit confused by the process at the time as there isn't much info out there.

The college application process and deadline was in the autumn term (the 6th form was in the spring) so he had to apply there first and was offered a place. I phoned them up to ask about accepting more than one offer and they said that was fine and to decide after gcse results day.
