Moving out of London for secondary

We have some time to decide (DS in Y4), but we're toying with the idea of moving just outside London (we're in South London now, near to good state options and then the private Dulwich, Alleyns, Jags options, etc.) Both my DH and I have jobs where we can commute in to central London about once a week, and if we moved out we'd like no more than an hour's commute. Just wondered who here has done this and how you've found it! :)

Chislehurst might be a good option. If you live just inside the Bexley side your dc can take the private coaches to the Dulwich schools (long journey though) or be in catchment for the grammars in Bexley. Could also sit for the super selectives in Bromley and Dartford.

Thanks @turmerictolly! I think we're totally open to where we live. We are okay attending school outside of London, too. My son is currently at a non-selective independent in SE London, and we'd like to keep him at an academic, smaller secondary school. :)

There is also a private secondary school in Chislehurst called Farringtons - supposed to have good pastoral care and it is also on the train line to Colfe's at Lee and Eltham College at Mottingham. It's a good base for both grammars and a wide range of independents and is also a nice place to live - green, easy to get into central London.
