When to expect contact from new secondary school - Sept 22 entry

Dd1 was fortunate enough to get her 1st choice school in March allocation which I accepted immediately.
Is it normal that we have so far had no contact from the new school?
There will be a transition day in July because there always is on same day in Borough but I thought there might be some sort of standard welcome pack etc.
Nothing on website - there is some info for Sept 21 which I would expect to be fairly similar of course.

I guess I'm feeling anxious because since application have found out head is leaving & it wasn't my first choice (it's a better school on paper and dd1 loved it) so lack of contact as well is making me nervous so wanted to see what other schools were doing??

I think schools normally send stuff out during half term.
At the moment they will be focussed on preparing for GCSE and A Level exams.

State grammar school. We received a single page letter about a week after the offer in March, inviting us to fill in an online form to accept the place and request a visit (they had not allowed any visits last year prior to submitting the preference form in October.)

Following that, we received an email inviting DD and one parent for a visit, which happened in late March. The visit was a brief introduction from the Head and Head of Y7, and a tour given by Y7 pupils, lasting just over an hour in total.

The first letter also informed us that an information pack would be sent in the post this week – it hasn’t arrived yet – and also informed us that the new intake day for all of the state schools in our area will be 6th July.

We received an email with dates for our calendar of parents information evening, uniform evening and date of the transition date for pupils. They said we will get more information nearer the time. The parents evening/uniform evening are in mid to late June.

I wouldn't be concerned at all with no contact

Not yet.

The head of year for next year's intake may well be head of year 11, and their priority at the moment will be getting them ready for their exams. We've only just been given information about study leave for year 11...

Hopefully things like uniform are on the website, and as you say, there's usually some information from last year kicking around so you can get an idea.

We have received forms to fill in, transfer days date and added to newsletter mailing list

We where invited a whole year meeting with the head of year in early June where they where given all the information met form tutors, found out their house, given the options to buy certain books and a from to order uniform. The children where invited to the induction day a week later. I know it seems like a long wait but schools have more than enough happening for children already in school.

Gosh! Some of my yr6 class have had an interview with a senior manager and discussed choices of pathway for next year (schoolA). Those going to School B will do a similar meeting just after SATS (no pathway choice, all do the same). School C children, one or two, visited today.

All have had timetables of the things that will happen between now and September. All are state schools in Suffolk.

I work on the transition team at a secondary school. We wrote to parents in early March giving key dates and uniform information etc. We have a dedicated page in the website with information and activities to help parents prepare their child. Our next letter, inviting students/parents to interview, will go out in a fortnight. Teachers will visit children in their primary schools in person or virtually in June. We haven't appointed a Head of Year 7 yet but they will only really get involved from induction day.
We're behind recently due to staff absence and other pressures so I guess other schools will be experiencing the same knock on.

Plumbear2 · 29/04/2022 17:28

I mean early July not June.

JurasicPerks · 29/04/2022 17:39

We've had a letter asking for info, and giving Daye for transition days and a parents meeting in July.
Nothing else, and I wouldn't expect it til after the Y11 (and 13s if they have them) have left.

School I work at (different LEA) had a parents meeting earlier this week. Don't know what letters. Transition is July.
