How much homework is normal?

Just that really? I’m trying to gauge what’s a normal amount of homework for secondary school students in either state or the independent sector. I’ve heard some numbers recently that really shocked me but am curious what is typical.

Grammars need their pound of flesh as they live or die on their results. Parents know what when they sign up. A proportion of children flourish with the pressure but many don’t - hence the rise in mental health issues.
