Hi wise mums,

My son is currently 10 and hoping to send him to UK next year for 11+. Pls share some names of nurturing co-ed boarding schools for a year 7. My son isn't the strongest in academic but very friendly and all rounded. Happy to hear all kinds of recommendations. Thank you to everyone to pass by to drop a line!

Which school/s are you aiming for year 9? You need to bear in mind many 13+ schools pretest UK students in year 6/7 for year 9 entry. It might be better to look for a prep school where a cohort move to that school.

@hellofuture

Have you thought about Junior Kings Canterbury? It is quite popular with Hong Kong families. Lots of boarders start at Y7. Y7-9 are spent at the prep school site in Sturry which means the children get a very nurturing start to boarding life. Most of the students then go on to Senior Kings at 13. The Junior School is not really academically selective, but they will give you a clear steer as to whether or not the senior school will be a good fit for your DS at 13. They will facilitate the transition or if they feel your son is not suited to the senior school they will advise on suitable alternatives.

Oakham takes full boarders from year 6.

If your DD is boarding in Kent then I would have thought Kings Canterbury or Christs Hospital might work - it makes sense to have them in a geographically similar area

Have you checked out The Downs Malvern that feeds into Malvern College? Friendly, not a hot house.
