Hi folks,

My DS is sitting the 11 plus for some of the superselective grammar schools in London next month. We did a mock test today and got the results back, which have put me in a bit of a panic mode. I thought we were almost there with the prep but it seems we still have quite some work to do.

Anyone else have DC taking the 11+ next month and what last minute prep are you doing?

CEM results for Chelmsford have landed. DD has a great score, if we were in catchment she would be guaranteed a place right now, as it is, more anxious nail biting until March 😭 Waiting on CSSE and aptitude results now. 2 due tomorrow, 1 next week.

Did you receive email?
ElvenDreamer · 14/10/2021 13:22

@whatinname it was a letter.

whatinname · 14/10/2021 13:30

Ok, no postie yet today for us. Wondering if any IC parents received the letter at all yet?

Lockdowndramaqueen · 14/10/2021 14:19

@ElvenDreamer that must be a relief. Well done to your dd. 🤞it’s high enough come Mar 1st but you sound optimistic.

whatinname · 14/10/2021 15:44

Got ours as well now :-) Phew!! In band 1. So all fingers and toes crossed.

ElvenDreamer · 14/10/2021 15:59

Thank you @Lockdowndramaqueen, hoping it's high enough in band 1 but super proud of her either way! Well done @whatinaname, everything crossed for you too for March.

BumbledBee · 14/10/2021 16:18

Well done to your DDs @ElvenDreamer and @whatinname

whatinname · 14/10/2021 18:48

Thanks a lot @BumbledBee and @ElvenDreamer. Best wishes to you too!

WithCatLikeTread · 14/10/2021 20:02

Well done to those with good results already!

Waiting for tomorrow….!

Think we have to log into the website(CSSE), will I be able to remember the details?!

Also, getting DH to do it as DD made me promise I wouldn’t look until we got home from school together 🙄 so getting him to look, and whisper to me. Then I can play innocent when I pick her up 🤫 at this point I am expecting a fail but she came out so confident I feel bad for her.

🤞 for everyone!

Phew. Results landed and the last of my offspring will be dispatched in September to the school of her choice.

Thank. Goodness. We. Are. Done. With. 11+

The 11+ journey is on a par with potty training as a stressful life phase entirely determined by a small and sometimes irrational person. And we are done: hurrah!

Tinged with a bit of sadness as a couple of my friends didn’t get such happy news with their dc’s results and I know it can be a matter of only a few marks, so thinking there but for the grace of God…

GrinGrinGrin Congratulation!! I know kids really work hard, but when kids are only tender 10 or 11, their parents also need to engage a lot. A big pat in the back to all parents what ever is their DC’s outcome.

unfortunately a poor result for us. DD doesn't even know the results are coming out today so we have a bit of time to manage it, I think. I feel crushingly guilty as we couldn't afford a tutor for her and the problem was always the actual structure of the questions etc, not the questions themselves, which I think a tutor would have helped so much with. Very sad here this morning.

@changingstages Sorry to hear that. Sincerely hope everything works out for your DD. This is a brutal process. But as per another ongoing thread here in MN, 11 plus is not be all and end all and ample kids get on and do very well in their career.
changingstages · 15/10/2021 09:53

oh I know - stepson also didn't get into grammar and just graduated from Cambridge with law degree, so he's a very handy example to have around! Just wish I could have done better for her.

lawofdistraction · 15/10/2021 12:07

Well done to everybody who's had good news and unmumsnetty hugs to those who haven't. Flowers

We got ours today, DD has ranked comfortably for a place at her 1st choice school. Even better is so have her 2 BFFs. I'm so glad it's over now!

WithCatLikeTread · 15/10/2021 13:13

DD didn’t pass 😞

In my heart I always thought she would, but the last few months have shaken that and I was right to be worried.

We’ll tell her to say she nearly passed. But she didn’t. She was quite a long way off.

Hopefully we’ll get into our catchment secondary and I’m sure she’ll be fine there.
It’s just getting through the next few months at school with those that did vs those that didn’t.
I feel bad for her.

ElvenDreamer · 15/10/2021 13:43

Comiserations to those who didn't get what they wanted at this stage, remind your wonderful kids that it's just another twist in the road and all the things they've learnt will stand them in good stead. They are all super stars for even going on this journey.

Good results for us here, although as with everything, unless I know what everyone else got I don't know if it's good enough! However historical results of last few years suggest we are comfortable so finger crossing until March now.

Lockdowndramaqueen · 15/10/2021 13:52

I’m so sorry to hear it @WithCatLikeTread - it’s such a tough thing to understand how competitive these exams are. Well done your dc for being brave enough to put herself forward for this and to do the work. As @ElvenDreamer says it will stand them in good stead. I have a older dc who did not go through the 11+ and her excellent comp is full of kids who narrowly missed. That work they did preparing is so helpful when they start secondary and many of those children are doing amazingly.

Congratulations and commiserations to everyone getting results today - it’s going to be an emotional weekend. Trying to stay calm for next week when our results land.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 18/10/2021 11:59

Got ds' score this morning (Warwickshire) it's really good but not enough, even for the waiting list, of his preferred school. But it's only 2 off so I don't think he's going to take it well. Had it been lower I think he'd take it better but knowing that only a couple of years ago he'd have stood a chance will make it hard for him, if that makes sense? That being said, given what's happened over the last 2 years I'm incredibly proud of him for trying.

DogsTail · 19/10/2021 16:02

Any one knows when Sutton Girls results come out? I was hoping for yesterday 😬

Lockdowndramaqueen · 19/10/2021 17:11

According to a parent on the 11+ forum who rang Nonsuch could be any time this week up until Friday. Wish they would hurry up - am fed up waiting now.

DogsTail · 19/10/2021 17:30

Thanks, Lockdowndramaqueen. I did look at the 11+ forum but only found Tiffin chat in the most recent threads.

Lockdowndramaqueen · 19/10/2021 18:05

Is think it’s buried in one of the long chats. Apprentice tallies with previous years as in always just before they break for half term.

The children I teach in Year 6 who have sat the NWSSEE said the results ie scores will be emailed on the 22nd, so Friday!
