Year 11s in Wales - anyone else having a 'provisional results day'?

I assume this is the same all over Wales with WJEC candidates.

DS is going in tomorrow to get his 'provisional' GCSE grades.

As far as I can tell the rationale for this is that they will have more time for appeals, going through school then exam board.

I can't work out on what basis any appeal could realistically be made given that most of the year 11s I've spoken to genuinely feel they have no idea what grades to expect after the couple of yers they've had - one girl in particular I know said she could get all As or all Es or anywhere in between and would have no idea if that was fair/ They really don't feel they've any sort of peg to hang it on I think.

Anyway. Was wondering if anyone else has this going on this week and how your y11s are feeling about it.

Yes, DS gets his provisional results Friday. School have said it's to give them a chance to appeal, but I agree with you. Our school had exams so he thinks he's done ok. I can't help but feel he would have taken it more seriously and revised more if they had been official GCSE exams, so I hope that doesn't affect his grades too much.

DS has had a really tough couple of years even without covid so we have no idea what today holds really.

All the best to your DS for Friday.
