Small rant alert! Dd does not realise how close she is to being throttled. I've been getting the Kevin Patterson treatment all week and have just about had enough!

@orangecinnamon Lots of deep breaths and more deep breaths. The heat isn't helping.

EwwSprouts · 11/06/2021 17:37

Re league tables, there is a skewing of some results towards Scotland because UCAS points are ridiculously generous for Highers compared to A levels. Makes it look like some Scottish universities have higher entry stats than Cambridge.

Thanks Monkey that's useful info.

EwwSprouts · 11/06/2021 17:38

orangecinnamon perhaps a small wine in the garden? For you not her!

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 17:40

Just booked my 19 year old DS for a jab tomorrow!

@Piggywaspushed

Just booked my 19 year old DS for a jab tomorrow!
Is that a benefit of living in a covid hotspot?

DS's GF is planning to come an sit a couple of metres away from him in the garden with her parents' approval. I think I will go with it as long as they promise not to get close enough to share the air or touch - he had a negative test and did not speak to or sit near the person who tested positive. I don't remember ever being so desperate to see someone that I could not last 10 days, or that being with the whole family in the garden, distanced from a partner, could be worth doing. Young love!

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 18:28

It does seem to be, yes, monkey!

stoneysongs · 11/06/2021 18:43

Anyone here getting provisional AS grades from school soon? I imagine this must be just Wales, not sure whose DC are doing AS...

Shimy · 11/06/2021 19:40

They don't do AS's at DS's school but they do have proper invigilated, 'in the hall' end of year 12 exams, which they are in the middle of right now. The results will determine their predicted grades so just as nerve-wracking.

Thanks sprouts. I had Seville Gin and tonic. Went rather well with my lovely paella (which Dd pushed around her plate like it was gruel).

Sympathies @orangecinnamon! I had to spend an hour in the bank with ds trying to sort out all the random payments that he didn’t realise had been coming out of his bank account!

No AS Levels here either. Dd will get predicted grades at some point based mainly on the end of June exams, but with 30% taken from tests/essays.

orangecinnamon · 11/06/2021 21:39

@crazycrofter how did that happen?!

@orangecinnamon I think he’s signed up for a few free trials for various things and not cancelled them! And suddenly he’s surprised because he has no money in his account! Not big amounts going out but big for a 14 year old...

Ah I see. Yes, Dd had something like that with a razor company.

Orange, you have my total empathy! DD has been horrible, truly awful for weeks, even giving DH the finger this week, “because he’s annoying me”! Angry

While I understand they’re teenagers and dealing with all kinds of stresses and pressures, it’s still exhausting to deal with and VERY difficult to like them when they are being so vile and difficult.
Exams here from Monday for both DD and DS, so the atmosphere is explosive here, not helped by DH and myself feeling completely wrung out by life generally (DH still not able to work properly, so we’re still living in a financial black hole).

Thank god I found yoga again during lockdown

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/06/2021 10:28

Hello all, been lost in the wilderness for a few weeks. Good luck to those taking music exams and end of years, ours start on Monday - eek!

For those of you who have booked driving tests, what’s the secret?? DS passed his theory yesterday and I’ve been trying to book a test. The whole set up seems ridiculous, put in a date you want and they tell
You if it’s available - why not just show everything that’s available? Anyway, I’ve put in a date for every month through to next August (2022!) and nothing showing! Not here or anything within a huge radius of here. What am I doing wrong??

20newnames · 12/06/2021 11:58

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn
As for the driving test, you don’t have to put in a date you can just search for all dates. I spent a couple of days pressing refresh until a test came up. Luckily I work from home so could do this on one screen while working on the other screen. This was in April and DS has a test in September. I hear they are releasing more tests from next week.

Anyone doing the Bath virtual open day today? It’s actually quite decent and engaging for an online one.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/06/2021 12:19

Thanks @20newnames I didn’t see anything for selecting all dates? It was asking me to put a date in which I thought was odd! I’ll look again on the PC rather than the iPad.

20newnames · 12/06/2021 12:31

Not sure but from memory I think you could select a date or above that was just a search button without putting in a date (not fully sure though!)
It did take a good while of refreshing though. Good luck!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/06/2021 12:46

I've just tried on the PC but its only letting me pick a date rather than giving me the next available date. Sad

20newnames · 12/06/2021 13:48

It may well be that there are no available dates anyway. As I said I tried for a couple of days to get any available dates at all at my ten nearest test centres. Not on my PC so can’t look now but I know I didn’t choose a date. Sorry I can’t show you a screenshot and be more helpful.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/06/2021 13:56

No worries @20NewNames, thanks for trying to help, I’ll check again each morning and keep my fingers crossed that some dates become available.

Monkey2001 · 12/06/2021 17:05

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn I think I read somewhere that they release the next week of slots at 8:00 on Monday morning, so that is the time to be ready. You get any slit you can and then keep an eye out for cancellations/additional slots or pay £20 for an app to look for you.

Congratulations on passing theory.

Zandathepanda · 12/06/2021 18:30

I am fuming with the football coverage. The one time my Dd watches a footy match (in between revision for a big assessment on Monday). The poor footballer was obviously very ill and they kept filming him. It’s led to Dd having a seizure as she relates to some of the stuff she’s been through. That’s her done for the rest of the weekend.

I feel desperately sorry for the footballer and his family. There will have been loads of kids watching the match - surely the production company have protocols for switching to the studio rather than the close-ups and coverage they did? Dh feels awful for keeping it on so long before switching the tv off. Apparently they have now stopped filming now. I wasn’t watching it so this is what I got from Dh.

Zandathepanda · 12/06/2021 18:36

Apologies for the rant. Been trying to keep everything calm for Monday then you get another curveball.
