@Shimy have you tried the volunteer websites? In Bristol we have various organisations connecting volunteers with charities. The university coordinates student volunteers, developing a website could be a nice student project

Monkey2001 · 10/06/2021 00:21

Thanks all for the good wishes

EwwSprouts · 10/06/2021 09:00

@Monkey2001 Fingers crossed!

@Shimy As it's for charity I would put a feeler out on your local town FB group. Usually people step up to do it for free as good PR.

crazycrofter · 10/06/2021 09:31

Hope the piano exam goes well for him @Monkey2001. Grade 8 is another level! I failed my grade 8 piano in year 13! I just didn't practise..

Ds left learning the last page of his GCSE performance piece till 9pm last night - then we had Pirates of the Caribbean on repeat for an hour an a half! I hope he gets through it ok today...

ealingwestmum · 10/06/2021 10:39

Cheering the boys on for their music exams/performances today!

We have G4🎷 on Saturday. That’s if she doesn’t get the dreaded self isolation email beforehand. They’re dropping like flies in L6th 😱

FoolsAssassin · 10/06/2021 11:50

I know half the day is gone already but good luck to DS Monkey!

Oh gosh it is quite concerning ...the pressure's on for the jabs

Dd has her second on Saturday. MIL has been told she has a high level of antibodies after participating in some trial. It takes the worry away.

Have heard that Dd grade 8 singing was submitted yesterday after her exam last week. Looks like there will be some talk of results in a couple of weeks time. She was a "one take wonder" apparently I have everything crossed for them all.

Now looking to see what Musical Theatre groups are starting up ...I will need everything crossed for that one too.

@Monkey2001 - I did engage one developer I found via NCVO website but it fell through for various reasons. I'm also keen for the developer to do ongoing maintenance once the site is built therefore sort of prefer a small organisation of more than one person ifyswim.
@EwwSprouts - Thanks so much.

@ealingwestmum
Hope the music exams went well and pray there's no need to isolate, what a nuisance!. I though about the infection rates and ds who is doing exams this week (school in hotspot area) and next but luckily haven't heard anything untoward.

icanbewhatiwant · 10/06/2021 18:22

I have read on here all of you talking of EPQ's. Neither of my ds's have mentioned them before. Now ds2 has told me they will start theirs in year 13. So slightly different at our 6th form. He has no idea what his will be on or whether he will do one.

Monkey2001 · 10/06/2021 19:00

So our day did not quite go to plan. Piano exam at 9:30, I dropped DS2 off at 9:00, went to park and shortly after received a text saying he had to isolate as there was a covid case. His phone was off and he was already there so I made a quick decision to leave him and booked a PCR for straight after the exam. As the day progressed we discovered that somebody in his tutor group whose dad had tested positive thought he should still go to school. So whole tutor group now off until the mocks start on 21st. Grrrr!!!!

DS1 and his GF are already isolating here as they saw their best friends last Friday, and the friends tested positive on Monday. DS and GF have tested negative on several lateral flow and a PCR.

I now have 2 separate rooms of isolators requiring room service at the top of the house. DS1 enjoying being lazy with no need to justify, GF a bit stir crazy, DS2 very sad to not be able to see his GF, go to the gym, go to school, do his driving theory test on Saturday.

On the positive side, the exam went really well, so VERY glad the text arrived too late to stop him taking it!

@crazycrofter hope your DS pulled it out of the bag today!

crazycrofter · 10/06/2021 19:09

Oh dear, what a day @Monkey2001! Glad at least the exam went well! But it’s so annoying when someone doesn’t isolate when they should and ends up forcing a whole class into isolation.

Ds just told me that he spent half an hour before the performance practising and his arms were aching so much that he didn’t have it in him to play the piece well when the time came! But his teacher is letting him re-do it.

He seems to be having a week of tests, none of which he’s properly revised for. History tomorrow.

Dd is now also obsessed with the gym! And is also doing the whole push day, pull day thing! In between going to the gym and socialising, I think she’s fitting some revision in too.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:40

In case you didn't know the CUG league tables for 2022 are out now!

orangecinnamon · 10/06/2021 20:51

That was weird @Piggywaspushed I was just looking at league tables. The Guardian is weird has some surprises this year.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:57

We are maybe a bit obsessed Grin

Haven't looked at Grauniad yet.

DS's preferred choice of Glasgow is now number 1. Hmmm

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 20:58

Is there a new Guardian one? I can only see 2021?

AnneOfCleavage · 10/06/2021 21:01

ICanBe We are seriously considering suggesting to DD to scrap the idea of an EPQ as it's also year 13 at her school and it's extra pressure and stress she doesn't need on top of head girl duties and end of year exam prep.

So glad DS's exam went well Monkey and hope the isolation goes quick for him. He's got lots of time on his hands I guess now to revise before 21st June mocks exams.
Hope the exam goes well again tomorrow for your DS Crazycrofter - can he ease his hands on a hot water bottle to lesson the aches perhaps. So lucky he gets another shot.
Good luck for Saturday's G4 exam ealing.

ProggyMat · 10/06/2021 21:07

@Piggywaspushed- strangely enough, DD has agreed to look at Glasgow - she will not entertain St Andrews, though Grin
It’s not a ‘first choice’ but is a definite contender for 4th or 5th choice- so far!

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:12

As a Scot from the West Coast I do not countenance St Andrew's either! Grin

ProggyMat · 10/06/2021 21:17

@Piggywaspushed- She doesn’t want to be ‘stuck in the middle of nowhere, with nowt going on’ Grin
I’m just pleased she’s agreed to visit Glasgow and look around- I think the city would suit her!

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:19

I am v biased but it's a great city.

EwwSprouts · 10/06/2021 21:35

So sorry for the teens isolating due to other people's thoughtlessness.

I've just looked at CUG and Scotland is a strong showing in biology which is DS's choice. If you take out Oxbridge and London the remainder of the top 10 are in Scotland plus nearly in the Borders Durham. Need a northern road trip.

Shimy · 10/06/2021 21:35

@Monkey2001 ooh! that was close. Glad he managed to sit his exam. Wish him all the best!

@Piggywaspushed I was just looking at the league tables and didn't even notice it was new. I was very puzzled at some unis that had dropped for ds's subject vice versa, thought I was going a bit mad but now I realise why.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2021 21:38

150 year 9s sent home at my school today. About 40 year 10s at home and about 20 year 12s...

DS's school seems to have calmed down. Mainly because year 13 have gone and year 12 only on site for exams.

EwwSprouts · 10/06/2021 21:54

Crikey Piggy! Wasn't your school badly hit before too? If not too intrusive, do you work in a different town to the one your DS's school is in or is it different approaches to bubbles etc?

orangecinnamon · 10/06/2021 21:58

@Piggywaspushed

Is there a new Guardian one? I can only see 2021?
Sorry I meant last year's. I have come to conclusion that it must be the Research ratings that are making figures/ratings change slightly. Perhaps they have been given less weight as the REF has just come round again. 🤔

Dd seems to have her own criteria (I've probably said before) . She has refused to entertain the following Institutions Bath Spa, Birmingham, Bristol, Bangor...oh wait...!
