@KingscoteStaff

1984 Geography lesson - we'd come in, the teacher would do a bit of an introduction then spin the rotating board dramatically to reveal a detailed coloured labelled diagram of... something... for us to copy into our exercise books.

Teacher then retired onto the Geography room balcony for a crafty ciggie.

Was Natasha present?
icanbewhatiwant · 29/05/2021 20:29

@ealingwestmum glad I'm not the only one! That's good you've worked your way up though. There is so much more expectation of youngsters now too.

Seeline · 29/05/2021 20:51

The rotating blackboard in our geography room circa 1984 had a printed map of the world on one of the sections. I only ever saw it used to show the equator and tropics!
The one in the music room had blank manuscript - that got more use.

Proggy Yes, with her full set of Caran d'Ache pencils - the ones in a tin about a metre long that had to be arranged in a special order.

Hi I've only just found this thread.
My DD (17) on half term break from college has just started her first job waitressing at our local Harvester, she wanted a job in hospitality to help with her future career plan of being cabin crew.(hopefully!)
She doesn't want to go to uni so its been interesting to read all your comments about visits and choosing the right ones

Oblomov21 · 30/05/2021 15:33

I only had a Bic 4 colour pen.
I once bought ds's magic pens from hamleys.

orangecinnamon · 30/05/2021 15:57

Welcome @whoamitojudge! Dd boyfriend has a trial/interview at Harvester next week. I sworeblind to him yesterday that they used to have a help yourself 'cheese cart' but now I'm wondering if I made it up Grin

Friends who have been cabin crew have always appreciated the life it gave them and the travel perks.

@orangecinnamon good luck for his interview! I’ll ask DD later about the cheese cart 😂
She’s wanted to be cabin crew for a really long time so I’m hoping that it works out fir her

Thanks ! Re: Cheese cart...I don't think it exists anymore but my brain is telling me it did in the 90s!

We've really gone a bit retro on here lately Confused

I’ve been thinking about the 90s loads recently! I think it’s having children in their late teens - a period I remember vividly!

Welcome @whoamitojudge! Good to have you. I think most of our year 12s are planning on uni, but not all. It’s really interesting to hear about other routes.

whoamitojudge · 30/05/2021 22:05

@crazycrofter @orangecinnamon Thank you for the kind welcome

God I must be old - my late teens were mid 80s! Luckily my late teens seem to think that the 80s were really cool and love watching old episodes of TOTP with me 😆

crazycrofter · 31/05/2021 12:03

Haha! Well I left sixth form in 1994. Yes, the 80s are cool in my kids’ eyes because of Stranger Things. I’m not sure the 90s will ever be cool!

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 13:58

My late teens were the mid 80s too. My DCs think I'm ancient.

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 13:59

Although DD said I was cool the other week Smile

Seeline · 31/05/2021 14:23

I think it is just the 80s that were cool in DCs eyes - definitely not me😆 I finished my A levels in 1986 😱

EwwSprouts · 31/05/2021 14:39

Some of the 80's big films are quite popular though.

ealingwestmum · 31/05/2021 15:26

May be a little late now but just in case any of you have older DC (18+) and are accessible to Twickenham, they have lots of excess vaccine available today, AZ and P. Gate B, rugby stadium, and they need to get them used...

Monkey2001 · 02/06/2021 08:57

Off to Cardiff today - perfectly timed for a wet, stormy tour in the midst of a glorious week!

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 09:15

estherfrewen · 02/06/2021 09:40

On our way to Lancaster- thx for Birmingham info

orangecinnamon · 02/06/2021 13:39

Oh @Monkey2001 hope all OK...we are off there tomorrow...need to find a book for the train

EwwSprouts · 02/06/2021 17:23

Thanks Piggy, hopefully more will follow suit. If you could wave a magic wand for Nottingham, Sheffield, Durham that would be super helpful!

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2021 17:33

I have signed up for virtual open days for everywhere else so Birmingham seems to be an outlier. Hopefully more to follow suit.

FoolsAssassin · 02/06/2021 18:17

We’re probably going to Birmingham. There’s a virtual Exeter one tomorrow DS booked onto.
