Waiting Lists

When would waiting lists typically start moving?.

We are hoping for a waiting list place (5th currently) and to know when to expect movement would be much better than me wondering and not really knowing!

In our region you automatically go on the WL for higher preference schools. The borough doesn't release WL information until after Easter, so we will find out then where we are then. My DH still thinks it's a better school for our DS, so we're not yet all in agreement what the best course of action is if she receives a WL place.

Maverick197 · 30/03/2021 09:35

@DustCentral197 we will not automatically move to a higher preference school, I don't think that practice is very common. We're in Surrey.

I have been following. It is amazing how it is so different across the country. My DC just got into our first choice catchment school having been given none of our 3 choices on offers day. My local authority dont tell you where you are on the waiting list but we know of 10 who were ahead of us. It is apparently a very high birth year as never before have catchment kids not got places. There are 8 more further away than us yet to get in.

ImpatientAnn · 31/03/2021 20:08

Amazing news - congratulations!

You’re OGAT about how different it is. I can’t believe it’s been a month tomorrow since I found out my place on the waiting list for the one school in the neighbouring LA but still don’t know anything about my own LA. Will be calling again tomorrow if I don’t get a reallocation e-mail (which is what I’m really hoping for).

ImpatientAnn · 31/03/2021 20:08

Weird typo - you’re right about how different it is.

DarlingWithoutYou · 31/03/2021 20:29

In Hertfordshire they also automatically give you the place on the waiting list if you get it, no chance to decline. DS has now got pretty set on the school he got, so I've withdrawn from the waiting list.

bex12345 · 31/03/2021 20:34

Still holding out here. No news (quite unsurprisingly). Hopefully there will be some movement over the first half term after easter. I've now got into the not checking the waitlist mindset as I figured that me checking won't affect where DC is on it and good news happen when it happens (fingers firmly crossed!!!!)

Had a call earlier offering our 1st choice, we are ecstatic in this house today Grin

ImpatientAnn · 01/04/2021 12:56

Woohoo! Congratulations!
Nothing heard here. The guy last week said reallocations due to the new school by the end of this week. Giving them a call after 2.

ImpatientAnn · 01/04/2021 14:16

I called. Same answer as every time I call... “No it’ll be next week”. 🙄

ImpatientAnn · 01/04/2021 15:32

See previous message - 90 minutes after a no not until next week via phone we get an offer of first choice by e-mail. DD cried happy tears. 🥰

Cariocbirello · 01/04/2021 15:56

Brilliant yetmorewaiting & ImpatientAnn - so pleased for you both!

🤞for everyone still waiting

bex12345 · 01/04/2021 16:14

Great news @yetmorewaiting and @ImpatientAnn what a relief hey!

Maverick197 · 01/04/2021 16:57

@ImpatientAnn congratulations- that must be a huge relief! Now you can relax and enjoy your Easter holidays!

indie123 · 01/04/2021 18:43

Seems like lots of people have had calls today, congrats to everyone who has had good news!

We haven't heard anything yet, was expecting to at as number 1 on WL for one of our schools. LA and the school not responding though arghh

bex12345 · 01/04/2021 19:08

@indie123 we haven't had news either. I wasn't expecting news anyway but some news would've been welcome.

I'm sure you'll get the news you're waiting for really soon!

indie123 · 01/04/2021 19:12

@bex12345 thanks, fingers crossed there's some movement for you x

Stokey · 01/04/2021 20:14

Congratulations @ImpatientAnn and @yetmorewaiting, must be a huge relief.

Thischarmlessgirl · 01/04/2021 20:46

Hi everyone
We weren’t offered any preferred schools and have been allocated 12 miles away Confused
I am appealing but today was told we are position 4 and 10 on our first two preferred schools as of today. Do you think there will be much movement (non grammars) I’d love to not have to go through the appeal process.....
Thank you

ImpatientAnn · 01/04/2021 22:37

I think 4 and 10 are great at this time of year. I work in a large secondary school - they reckon 10-20 places from the waiting list each year by September due to students going to private schools/schools for those with SEN/moving out of the area.

Fingers crossed that April brings great news for all those still waiting.

Thischarmlessgirl · 02/04/2021 07:59

@ImpatientAnn thank you, that’s reassuring

ImpatientAnn · 22/04/2021 09:36

Just logging in to see how everyone is holding up.

We didn’t get the same e-mail about transition that everyone else did this week from first choice school offered on 1st April which has me worrying a bit...

Giving it til Friday to get the booklet the e-mail says they are sending out this week then will contact.

I’ve got a stress related skin condition which has really flared up after all this, even though we’ve had good news, it always happens once I relax. Really hoping the rest of you are coping ok.

Thischarmlessgirl · 22/04/2021 09:56

Hope everyone is managing ok
I managed to put it to the back of my mind over the Easter holidays but this last week I’ve been completely preoccupied by it, DS’s primary are starting to talk about transition which is causing him to worry as he doesn’t know where he will be and his current allocated school is 12 miles away where he won’t know another child Sad
We find out more on 6th May, though I’m so hoping we might get a waiting list place before then
@ImpatientAnn As you’ve been offered a place I’m sure it’s just a admin error. Horrible to feel so stressed

bex12345 · 22/04/2021 10:02

@Thischarmlessgirl I also managed to put to the back of my mind over easter but now talks of transitions and information on uniform orders for offered school are starting and we're getting a bit nervous!.
