Scholarships at girls boarding school

My DD will be applying for boarding school next year for 11+ entry. We are currently looking at Downe House, Benenden and Heathfield Ascot as our choices. She is very bright and keen to learn. We are hoping she will get an academic scholarship. Did anyone get a scholarship and how difficult it is?
She also would be applying for music scholarship. Would she be pushing herself too much with two scholarships if she gets it. How much commitment to the schools?

I don’t know anything about the schools you are asking about, but I am interested too. I wonder how much it varies from school to school in terms of how much scholarship they are willing to offer? Do schools ever give 100% with music and academic combined?

Scholarships are not usually the main route to 100% fee awards nowadays. They're more likely to offer only a fraction. But scholarships are quite often the gateway to means tested bursary awards - which can be for up to 100%.

(I don't know about current awards at girls' schools - but there are boys' schools where bursaries are offered independent of scholarship attainment.)

Don't know about scholarships but I know a couple of girls that go so Heathfield and absolutely love it. My daughter did a summer camp there and said it was the best ever.

You need to ask the schools, but there won’t be many.

Christ’s Hospital has a lot of free help and Rugby quite a bit. Try those also?

My dd has been offered a combination of music scholarship and academic bursary which doesn’t add up to enough for her to be able to go without additional help. The school have looked at our finances so they know this. I’m getting ready to look for additional sources of help, as she is really keen to go.

Scholarships tend not to have very high financial value these days. Do you need financial assistance in order for her to go?

sosnovijbor · 16/01/2021 17:21

I know that scholarships are not of any financial value, in fact the school we are looking at do not offer any discount but a privilege of extra tuition and free music lessons. What I would like to know is how difficult are scholarship exams and interviews? Do they have to sit both CE and scholarship exams?

Wishitsnows, I am also going to send my daughter to Heathfield summer camp, hope they will run it this summer. Did your daughter stayed there for the full week boarding?

Hey, I actually fine most schools really helpful, I would give them a call outright and ask about scholarships
