Will IGCSEs go ahead

Anyone on here with a child taking international GCSEs in the uk and have any info as to whether they will go ahead in June?

We have been told by the school that they are not cancelled. Rather worried about this as it will very much disadvantage these uk kids who've missed so much teaching when they are lumped in with all the many more international students who have been taught as normal - and then examined as if the same...

Most good private schools don't really give a shit about league tables so can use the boards that they like.

As a teacher at a low performing state school, Trust me, we are also choose wisely z.

My daughter has sat her IGCSE maths today. The first paper was last week. I think one of the reasons independents MIGHT use them is the flexibility to be able to sit them at different times of the year. Eg) some kids sitting them early.

Not so wisely that you didn't know why state schools didn't take igcses Confused

happilybemused I'm completely confused by your posts!

BiBabbles · 14/01/2021 11:27

Hope everything goes well for your daughter silverbubbles

I've finally found a somewhat local place for my DS that's still taking private candidates. I've a phone appointment next week to finish registration and do the payment, I really hope the questions on will they, won't they cancel are settled before then.

Mainly because they are not allowed to since 2019. Also other preferences such as a desire for less exam dependence.

What?
happilybemused · 14/01/2021 20:06

I teach at a state school teacher at a very low performing school. We prefer exams with the majority of coursework

We can help and guide our students rather than expecting everything to depend on a single day when who knows what the situation will be on the day. ( I speak from experience)

My children attend a private school. The school prefer end of year exams and no coursework hence I GCSE's. Also teacher preference. They also know their students.

Hope this helps.

It is a head of department choice and we all know our cohort. We can and will choose the option best to our circumstances.

happilybemused · 14/01/2021 20:33

Hopefully such a radical view will be not be reported.

Actually know your facts before campaigning to get me banned.

NotDonna · 14/01/2021 21:02

I’ve no idea how to get you banned. I also don’t think your views are radical. You just sound drunk. If you’ve ever read any of my posts you know I dislike our exam culture.

MrsMiaWallis · 14/01/2021 21:19

I didn't think GCSES had much if any coursework these days? Mine have done a mix of both.

Why did you @ me?

I'm assuming you are interested in whether igcses are going ahead if your children are doing them?

happilybemused · 14/01/2021 21:19

@NotDonna Really? Is that your best response?

happilybemused · 14/01/2021 21:20

Also 'exam culture'

MrsMiaWallis · 14/01/2021 21:22

I literally have no idea what you are on about 😅

Why are you annoyed with private school parents with kids doing igcses when you are a private school parent with kids doing gcses?

happilybemused · 14/01/2021 21:28

You are all massive bullies. Good luck to you all.

happilybemused · 14/01/2021 21:29

@MrsMiaWallis Good Night

NotDonna · 14/01/2021 21:42

Has she left the thread? 👀 Can we come back out and continue the conversation? I’ve no idea what that was about or why her odd posts were deleted. Nothing made much sense & I had thought I’d tried.
Anyway, still no news here. I’m still expecting they’ll be cancelled. DD just wants to get decent grades that will reflect her abilities. As I expect we all do!
