Ok, so yesterday DD (Y7) came home with her first test result and there’s a scale of levels on the back, minimum 3, maximum 6-. She had already mentioned previously that the maximum she could get in the music assessment was 6+. Are these levels the attainment targets? There’s a leaflet on the school website about these but I have no idea if I’m looking at the right thing Grin or if these levels are something completely different. Is 6(ish) what’s expected of Y7 or end of KS3? Thank you for any light you can shed on this!

(I know I can ask the school but they seem to be struggling to keep on top of everything at the moment...)

I can't help sorry but I would also like to know this!

I think we’re alone here Grin - I found some guides from other schools but not sure it’s all standardised? I might have to just ask.

DS was given target levels about this time in y7 for what he should be aiming for at the end of Y9. All his reports are based on whether he is working well enough toward these targets. As far as I can ascertain level 5 is the minimum they should be aiming for. DS has targets of mainly 7 and a couple of 6s but tells me there is a mythical possibility of an 8 though he has certainly not got any predictions of these.....

@sproutsandparsnips thank you Smile - we haven’t had anything from school, and no reports or parents’ evenings yet, so I shall wait. Not sure if situation has been made a bit trickier by the lack of national tests and a proper transition...

Yes he did have some sort of testing during the first half term too - CAT tests.
He gets some pieces of work graded as they are, ie he might get a 6 but that's ok in year 8 for example if he is aiming for a 7 in year 9.

Ah, DD mentioned a CAT test, apparently her ict teacher turned her computer off by accident and she had to do it again Confused - do parents normally get the results for this or is it for school use only?

I'm not in Wales but DS did CAT tests in Year 7. I had no idea until a few years later when I saw them mentioned on here. I phoned school to ask and they gave me his results on the phone.
I think it's 3 scores for the CAT tests, although I can't remember what they relate to. Verbal and non verbal reasoning I think and something else.
At his school that are used with SATS to give gcse target grades. Not sure if you do SATS in Wales

I don't think I got actual scores just graphs and comments about his strengths.....
