Good Secondary Mixed School near Barnet (1/2hr commute ideally)

Hello,

I'm just starting to get a sense about secondary schools. Not grown up in this country, so I have very little idea about resource and etc.

I looked up for decent schools in Herts and North London. But have hard time to distinguish which is mixed and which is all-boys. Ideally, we want to look for mixed schools.

Is there any easier way rather than having to go to each school website to check it?

Same for commute. I've used Google map, but it's a bit labouring and unsure about the result. Any other ways to look into this?

Primarily we'd like to go to grammar schools/state schools, as DH really isn't keen to put him into paid independent (He has decent reasons not because we can't afford modest ones.). Would you mind recommending some good schools of all the above?

Would really appreciate it.

Dame Alice Owen is the no1 grammar choice for Barnet. Ashmole is the no1 nob-grammar. Also, see if you might be in the catchment for Wren Academy

Apologies for typo. I meant „non-grammar“ of course

You will also be in the catchment for Latymer - another great mixed grammar choice

Thank you @XelaM, I will look up Ashmole and Wren Academy. DAO would be really difficult to get in. Commute to Latymer will take roughly 1 hour 10 minutes, even though only

Just checked Wren Academy. Non-selective. So if we don't attend any church, we will be in the category for community places. I guess it's unlikely we can get a place as we live about 5 miles away from the school?

BTW, thanks, @XelaM, I don't know why I haven't thought about schools more inner London. Mostly have been only looking at Herts region. I will look a bit more for schools in North London.

@tdm1, thanks. I saw this source before. But I missed the imbedded filter which allows choosing mixed schools. Thank you.

Where in Barnet are you. Unless you get into a grammar your usual options is the closest schools to you.

Southgate school in Cockfosters also have a good reputation, but as stated if going for a comprehensive it totally depends on where in Barnet you live. I know some who sends their kids to schools in Borehamwood but don't know which ones.

Presuming you like near High Barnet if you're 5 miles from Wren..

Non selective mixed: Ark Academy, Totteridge Academy, East Barnet
Religious non selective mixed: JCOSS
