Graveney School - selective offers 2020

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences on how waiting list moves for Graveney selective intake?

DD is 14th on it at the moment, and her WT score is 2 points lower than what was needed to receive an offer on 2nd Mar (251 vs 253).

Would be great to know what to expect in the coming weeks and evaluate our chances.

Thank you!

I don't blame you @Whyisthisnoteasy.

Celeriacacaca · 10/04/2020 16:19

@newmodelarmymayham is right. I'm at another Wandsworth secondary and we have taken several calls from parents who turned down their places initially in favour of private, but now want to take the place up as their circumstances have changed. I'd be amazed if you don't get in before September at number 7 though.

Iwanttogoaway · 10/04/2020 16:29

celeriacacaca I would have thought no state places at this stage ?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/04/2020 18:43

@celeriacacaca wouldn't they go to the bottom of the waitling list or are you accommodating their change of mind if they places haven't yet been officially freed up via Wandsworth Council?

AveEldon · 11/04/2020 08:54

The waiting lists operate according to the school admissions criteria
Wandsworth aren't processing any applications at the moment

kisel1 · 11/04/2020 15:08

@AveEldon - however, when I contact the schools directly they tell me that the most current information is available from the council, they receive everything from the council team themselves.

@Celeriacacaca - could you maybe clarify how the process works? Including for those who changed their minds? Thank you!!

I would have thought you contact the council and school (the school almost certainly will have a form you need to fill in) to apply again, then go back onto the waiting, the number of which will be dependent on catchment and / or original test score if a grammar.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/04/2020 09:42

I guess it's probably easier if you have a 'selective place' to get back to the top of the waiting list?

Stircrazyschoolmum · 15/04/2020 14:13

kisel In my son's year (2018) the last place at Graveney (selective stream) was allocated mid/late August at a score of 249. My guess is further places may have been allocated but the list goes from being council managed to school managed once term starts.

Your DD sounds in a very strong position but the COVID-19 situation will be slowing down allocations and also causing parents to make different decisions to anticipated. Hang on in there. I know lots of parents who are very happy with the school and my gut says you will get a place by May/June time.

Wandsworth Council used to publish data on where the list had moved to by certain points. Its worth checking historical links on their website or asking admissions team staff once the Easter Holidays are over.

Best of luck. x

Just to say that we were 3rd on the waiting list for Graveney (as of 9th April) and today we received an email from the Pupil Services to say that a place had become available. So waiting lists are moving. Hang in there, you might be pleasantly surprised.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/04/2020 17:00

Oh that's good news - well done to your DC @audrey01

dinosaurinmybelly · 28/08/2020 21:41

Hello kisel1 how did the waiting list move in the end? I hope everything worked out for you. It's been a tense time all around.

Hello, we did get an offer in the middle of July! After a long consideration though, we decided to decline - Graveney is quite a commute from us and in the current situation we didn't want to rely on public transport. We were lucky to get an offer from Lady Margaret which academically should be in the same league with Graveney; not our first preference to go to a girls-only church school but I'm sure it will work out fine.
