i think a laptop would be better, because -at my dc's school at least- they have to use word/publisher/powerpoint and use the school portals etc, which aren't always mobile/ipad friendly x

Loopytiles · 01/09/2019 20:29

Not really, as lots of apps aren’t ipad friendly.

Loopytiles · 01/09/2019 20:29

Laptop better. And cheaper.

Moo5ele55 · 01/09/2019 22:02

Thank you. Has anybody got any other info re apps and portals which do/ don’t work on the newer iPads. Also posture( hunched over an iPad)is a concern.

We’ve done cheap laptops and Im sick of them being slow and needing replacing. Our MacBook Pro is the best most over used thing in the house and she’s not having that.

Need something reliable.

Can’t use mymaths on an iPad, maths homework may be set on this.

titchy · 01/09/2019 22:40

What are you doing to the laptops that means you have to replace them regularly?

Decent antivirus, don't use dodgy websites, don't download anything. That should give you a couple of years of decent performance. Then F8 factory reset once it's started to slow down, buys you another year at least.

Moo5ele55 · 02/09/2019 06:35

Yes know all that, my dh is a programmer and kids quite computer savvy and careful. They just slow down or get glitchy or have other problems. We’ve gone for supposed ok brands under £500. It’s not regularly but 3 have gone down the swany over 5 years or been a pita ie a world away from the two Apple products we have.

Useful to know about MyMaths, thanks.

We have Lenovo laptops which seem to work well and last well.

Grambler · 02/09/2019 08:27

Doesn't it depend on the school? Our secondary issues each pupil with an iPad Air 2 (not free, mind) and all homework is set and done on them. No keyboard required.

I use an iPad Pro for my freelance work and have had no issues with using Word, Excell etc.
