What phone plans are your DC on?

DD is starting secondary school this year. She has a phone and I topped it up with £10. Can I ask what phone plans are your secondary school DC on please? Is a PAYG sim ok for now? She WhatsApp’s primary school friends using WiFi at home. As of now, the phone is mainly for contact when I drop her off at activities.

We also use ID MOBILE (from carphome warehouse) which is £5 per month for unlimited calls and texts and 2gb data. Bearing in mind wireless is used at home (and school) its absolutely plenty and DC has never gone over (we cap at an extra £1 so no shocks) and surplus rolls over.

I’m surprised by people spending £10+ - why is that, unless it includes the phone.

Don’t get a handset and sim deal for teenagers. Give them your old phone or go on music magpie and buy whatever phone you’re prepared to pay for 2nd hand with a years guarantee - lots of great phones for around or under £100. Paying for a sim and new handset deal is a credit agreement that you pay for.

My old iPhone and a Plusnet sim only contract for £6.50 per month. Plenty of texts, calls and data. Will see how much data she gets though once she starts Y7 on Tuesday.

ID mobile sim only. fiver a month for more calls, texts and data than she can get through. She knows to wait and use wifi for most stuff, but given that they all communicate through WhatsApp when meeting up I wanted some 4g data available. you can lock it down with a spending limit.
