Hi we have been offered Evelyn Grace as its our closest school. It was our 4th choice. There are some posts relating to the school but they are all quite old. Can anyone give me more current information about the school? I would particularly welcome feedback from parents with kids at the school.

Thanks

Hi there just to say I doubt you'll find many parents from this school or the many comparable on mumsnet, unfortunately . . . Its intake is 70% pupil-premium . . . . Which says more about mumsnet than the school!
And certainly doesn't mean it isn't a good school; I'm sorry I don't know it personally. We have so many options round here (I'm a couple of miles north.) There was a brief thread from a parent in same position last year - I think EG was her 6th choice. I'm fairly sure she ended up getting a place from one of her higher-placed waiting lists in the end. I realise that's not much help to you now.
For your information there is a lot of waiting list movement round here over the spring and summer, and you can join any list you like, irrespective of whether the school was one of your original 6.

Omg, I don't know the school well personally but I do know children who are there. Like you it wasn't the family's first choice but the children have settled really well, in once case they then opted to put it as the first choice for a subsequent sibling. I've heard that the heads of year are good, and good sport and a strong careers department. I visited last year and really liked it. It felt to me like they were genuinely thinking about the local kids and what would work for them, rather than rolling out an identikit academy. The headmaster answered lots of my questions in a very non-defensive way. And I was really impressed by the young people I met - handshakes, smiles, lots of enthusiasm. Hope things work well for your DC.

Thank you both for getting back. Your comments are really helpful. Transitioning to secondary is potentially a difficult time for kids anyway, so the worry is exacerbated when the school is an unknown quantity, or worse when the "known" you're given is based on assumptions rather than first hand experience. Thanks again.
