Brit School: what are they looking for?

I'm very curious. My dd applied for y12 Music strand, didn't get in but got offered the reserve list. She prefers to stay in her current school to do music a level plus two academic a levels, so not too bothered but we are curious. She is a multi instrumentalist, composer, singer, diploma level in main instrument and high level in the others. Auditioned on a very original contemporary piece that she arranged herself on instrument and voice, everything went well and they really seemed impressed. Also played them an own composition. Glowing report from head of year at school and one of her music teachers, emphasising her talent and ensemble experience, etc. She has a friend already there who's told her they prefer singers/songwriters.
The main reason she'd already decided not to accept if they offered her a place is because the videos from the Brit seem to only show mainly quite mainstream vocalists, no bands, jazz or ensembles that show a variety of styles. Is this our perception only/are we missing something? Why would they only concentrate on the same thing ?

What are your dd instruments? I think you can ask for Feedback. I would be interested. My dd similar, thinking of applying for year 10. Talented multiinstrumentalist but not a singer songwriter. I had the same concern!
