Wimbledon High vs Kingston Grammar vs Putney High

We have an offer for one, a waitlist for another and are waiting results for the third. DD has done really well - better than we expected I guess - and now would love to have views on how the schools compare. I have read a lot about the girls schools but what about vs KGS? But also the girls schools too.

We have a child at PHS and a child at KGS and each one is in the right place.

KGS is down to earth, quite robust and feisty. Boys and girls seem to get on well together and DC2 has a very coed bunch of friends. Sport and drama both strong. Very approachable Head great ethos. Quite hands off parents.

PHS seems to produce or attract quite strong minded, politically aware girls. I think it would be an uncomfortable place if you weren’t pretty strong across the board academically. Communication with parents has, at times, been a bit hit and miss but the girls are assured that there’s nothing they can’t achieve.

But didn’t I just see on another thread that you have a son already at KGS?

Yep my DS is at KGS but have no idea how it compares with the girls schools and whether DD would suit there or all girls. Above is already super helpful!

DD is an all rounder. Clever. Quite introverted and quiet. Quietly determined I would say. She enjoys sport, music and art but I wouldn’t say she is super sporty like DS who loves that side of KGS.

I think it can be a tough place for introverts, but I guess that’s true of a lot of schools.

I have a DD at WHS. Although we live closer to PHS neither of us thought it would be right for her- no particular reason- just gut feel. Know lots of happy girls there though.
I really like KGS as well. I have come across quite a lot of families who have boys at KGS and girls at WHS and they say they have a similar feel in terms of type of parents etc- generally pretty 'normal' and down to earth.
Early days for us at WHS but all good so far- not much homework and no pressure. I expect that will change- I think they try and settle them in fairly gently and concentrate on the making friends etc. Real mix of extroverts, introverts, sporty, bookish etc.

I have friends at each of these schools although no personal experience. All are great schools. I would have thought PHS & WHS were on a par. I guess it comes down to whether you prefer mixed or single sex and which is the easier commute. Which does your dd prefer? Also if you have a firm offer from one that may help make your decision as you might not get an offer from the other before the acceptance date.

I know KGS but not the PHS or WHS (we didn't apply as we wanted coed for DD). Yes, there are a fair few feisty, sporty girls at KGS, but also quiet, studious girls. The main reason parents send their DDs to KGS is that they want coed for them (it comes down to personal choice), plus it's a great school. The pastoral side is strong. We've been very happy with this and, as a previous poster said, communication with parents is good. Drama and art is great, as well as the obvious sport, and because there are only c60 girls, everyone that wants to can play in a hockey team, I think netball too. We've been very happy. You know your DD and where she'll fit in the best. You'll know when you visit the schools on offers day. Good luck

I have 2 DDs at KGS. One definitely introverted. She loves it.

One thing we considered when deciding in Co-Ed v all girls was if the schools did much gymnastics, dance etc. DD really enjoys that sort of thing- not particularly talented but enjoys it! In general I think the girls schools do more if it. Certainly wasn't a deal breaker for us but when it's hard to make a decision the little differences can sway it!
