Hi all,

My DS had an admissions test/ interview at North Brige House Canonbury today. Any parents with kids there? It's very local to us so it would be great for him to go there, but we don't have any inside info.

Any views would be much appreciated.

This is very true! The results, esp GCSE, are truly outstanding

Published GCSE results at Mill Hill are far below NBH, both Hampstead and Canonbury. If it’s that competitive to get in god knows what they’re doing with the teaching.

This isn't true. I ran a comparison of the % achievement of GCSE 7-9 grades.

If I recall correctly (ignoring last year which skewed results and the top schools haven't even published theirs)

NBH Hampstead - 55
Mill Hill - 57
NBH Cannonbury - 63

@Donotgogentle Also bear in mind Mill Hill will have lots of children who started at Grimsdel or Belmont and have simply moved up through the school. It is not quite the same as Northbridge Prep.

It would be interesting to see results from the 11+ or 13+ cohort who may be in the top sets on entry and may be the higher achievers at GCSE

Interesting on the 7-9 grades but I was basing what I said on the overall pass rate at GCSE. Whenever there’s a thread on NBH the same couple of posters pop up to say “they take anyone”.

But look at the results. Percentage getting 5 or more GCSEs at grade 9-4 in 2019 was:

NBH Hampstead 97%
NBH Canonbury 94%
Mill Hill 79%

I’d say that’s a ringing endorsement of their progress with a mixed ability intake. Mill Hill’s results, on this metric at least, are the same as my local comp. It’s a nice school and I know a couple of bright children who go there but I’m not convinced be the GCSE results, especially if they’re really that competitive to get in.

Sorry - forgot the evidence, the Parent Power tables are behind a paywall but the ES is publicly available:-

@Donotgogentle Thanks for the updated information. I am also considering a place for my DD. However we are concerned about the girl/boy ratio. Is there any parents with DD thriving at NBH Canonbury?
