Any maths teachers around who can help? Textbook query for further maths AS

DD has asked me to see if anyone on MN can assist (maybe @noblegiraffe)? The teachers give them lists of what to buy, for regular maths easy as there's standard WJEC approved textbooks. Apparantly for WJEC further maths there's no official textbook, because there's not enough students to make it worth while publishing.

For FM mechanics the teacher has recommended a couple of books that between them cover all the topics needed. However the teacher for FM pure hasn't suggested anything (although a few of them have asked). DD really likes having a textbook to refer to and also to have extra examples to work through, and would welcome any suggestions, even if it doesn't cover all the topics something would be better than nothing!

The textbooks we’ve got for the new A-level are pants so I wouldn’t be desperate to spend money on a rushed out textbook for the new spec anyway. Not sure what the WJEC spec covers but if you look for old FP1 and FP2 textbooks on Amazon you should probably be able to get something that covers most things. And because those textbooks covered a well established A-level and had time to be updated and reprinted, they’re usually pretty good - just look at the reviews.

Good advice, thanks noble. I know for at least one of her other subjects they've been told not to get the new spec textbook for exactly that reason.

DD has a couple of friends feeling the same way, so perhaps they can have a look between them and get a few different 2nd hand old spec books from ebay to play with.

I may be being naive (actually, given UK education policy I probably am Confused ) but I assume that the basic content of FM is likely to stay more or less the same year on year / from board to board...?

Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure whether A level specs have changed here (Wales) - maybe it was just that the WJEC approved textbooks are rubbish... anyway, I just cough up when instructed by dd! (Much cheaper than trying to provide vaguely respectable looking uniform & approved black shoes at any rate - I think as a parent that's the no. 1 benefit of college over school Grin )
