Holidays during Year 11?

RedSkyLastNight · 02/10/2018 12:18

DS is only in Year 10, so this is forward thinking.

I was wondering about booking holidays during (school holidays in) Year 11 and whether others can suggest whether this was a good/bad/neutral idea?

I realise that May half term is totally out. How about planning to go away at Easter? Maybe for a long weekend only? How about Feb half term? Or Christmas (also probably out as school mocks in January).

Any pointers as to how tough the workload is in Y11 gratefully received!

DD is in year 11. We're not doing any hols this year until after GCSEs. There's mocks after Christmas and GCSEs after Easter so didn't seem like a good idea.

It prob varies with each school but with my DDs, we were told to avoid booking holidays in Feb half term, Easter and May of that school year. There were revision sessions throughout all those hols. It's extremely full on.

It depends on what dates you have for mocks, and if there are revision sessions in school over Easter. Both got in the way for us, though if school had been more open about the dates for the revision sessions we could have squeezed in a short break.

I think short breaks are fine, our DC's can't revise all day, every day for the whole year..... Our school has trips planned for Year 11 at Feb half term and Easter, to Berlin for History, and Rome for Classics, they see them as enrichment of the revision you are already doing.

Depends on your kid and their attitude to studying.

It depends on the dates of internal exams in that school, but generally I would say:

October half-term: fine.
Christmas: maybe for a few days. Longer if there are no January mocks.
February half-term: usually OK. They'll probably need a break by then.
Easter: 3-4 days is usually OK. Some schools have revision sessions in the holidays.
May half-term: no.
