My dd is returning to school today from having 3 days off sick with a bug. Not one of her so-called friends has seemed to have noticed she’s been off or contacted her asking how she is. Should I be worried about uncaring friends?

It seems to be perfectly normal in my DDs friendship group (also yr 10) - doesn't mean they don't care or like each other - they are just so wrapped up in themselves, homework, social media they just don't think to ask sometimes. 3 days to them is nothing - I'm sure if your DD had been off for longer then someone would have contacted her. Actually thinking about it now it wouldn't happened as they are on group chats on Snapchat etc but this was definitely the case in Yr8.

Thanks. She is on social media but not as prolific as some. Will see how she gets on today.

3 days off sick isn't really very long though is it?

One of DS's best friends moved to a different school at the end of Y9. DS has still not bothered to contact him to find out how he's getting on. He still considers them to be friends and they will probably organise to meet up at the weekend some time soon, there's just not the need to "check in" in that way. DS also pointed out (reasonably) that contact works both ways and friend has not contacted him either! Did your DD post on social media that she was ill? I expect that would have got a flurry of responses.
