Catholic school - have 8 already messed up?

My child is being baptised in 2 weeks when she will be 8 months. Started the process ages a go but due to missing baptismal certificate and then the priest going away for august she won't be baptised before 6 months a friend just told me that this will be a problem for school admissions. Seems so long away and now worried she will be restricted despite regular church attendance. Looked at various London catholic admissions and can't see references to 6 months but upset I'm already being rubbish and unorganized as I feared.Sad

You'll be fine. Some secondary schools ask for baptism within six months but this is nearly all phased out now.

If this is true that schools insist on that, it is utterly ridiculousand they should not be allowed to. Religion has no place in the running of schools.

It's very school dependent. Check the school you would like to attend. I think that if there are exceptional circumstances some schools will also take those into account.

If the criteria for practising says e.g. 'attend every 2 weeks for 3 years, signed by priest' then this is what you need. If it doesn't say baptised before 6 months then they can't insist on it.

I seem to remember there was an issue first with late baptisms purely for school purposes, but then Polish(?) families where they don't baptise until child is 1.

Thanks. Hopefully my friend's info is out of date.

If you are planning on still living locally, look on the admissions page on the websites of the Catholic schools in the area for the criteria
