Moving areas - possibly no school place until after Sept. How to prepare?

Hi, wonder if you can give me any tips, please? We are moving areas and the new Local Authority told us today they will probably not be able to give us a place anywhere until after the start of the term.

I think it's the system we are locked into, I tried to let DD's existing school know she is leaving, but they can't take her off the register until she has a new school. So, I suppose there could be someone in the same position over there, but who knows?

She will be high priority, but in the mean time, how can I keep her going? She will be going into yr 9 and has been predicted 8/9s (which I do know are possibly unlikely predictions at this stage), but I'd like to keep her on track.

Can anyone point me in the direction of resources or books that may be useful, please? She basically refuses to be taught anything by me, so this is going to be fuuuuuuuun. HmmConfused (send help and chocolate).

So, they are telling you that there are currently no spaces in your preferred school(s) for her year group? If there are spaces and you apply they have to give them to you, even if you live 200 miles away. Then you usually have a time limit to take up the place e.g. 3 weeks.

Otherwise if it's only a week or 2 in September I'd be tempted to do a bit of maths / MFL to keep up to speed, but not get too excited otherwise.

Hi TeenTimesTwo, yes I think there are no spaces in yr 9 in the closest schools. I guess they would have offered further away if there were spaces there? I find the whole thing bit confusing. I guess it will be after Sept before they know if other pupils have left.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that.
