Hampton 10+ exam

Hello! Our DS is sitting the Hampton 10+ in November and it would be really helpful to hear about others’ experiences and also what prep was undertaken. DS is at a state school; a bright boy who has consistently been top of his class. I know he has a good shot at the 10+ but there are a lot of variables such as performance on the day and performance of the other children sitting the exam ... he’s currently being tutored once a week for exam technique more than anything and we are doing 1 or 2 practice papers/tutor homework a week with a view to ramping up a little in the autumn. We are playing it as low stakes/practice run for the 11+ But it would be interesting to hear from those with DS that have been through it. Thanks so much.

Ks2yr5 you are a godsend! I’d been toying with idea of ringing!
So what results are being sent out today?? Only those getting an interview!?

I have been lurking on this thread and DS said exactly the same as all your boys about not finishing the maths etc.
Has anyone heard yet??! I was thinking it would be tomorrow so feel slightly sick even though we were only doing it for practice...

shoegal100 · 15/11/2018 16:06

It’s a no for us. DS is pretty gutted even though we were doing it for practice too. It was a nice but probably generic email about showing good potential and pls come back next year.
Ho hum. I knew it was statistically a long shot (even though he’s capable) it still smarts!

Sorry for the late reply. Yesterday was manic for various reasons.

Sorry to hear that, ShoeGal100. Hope your DS is ok. It's so tough, but it will great practice for next year. My other DC sat the 10+ at another school. Was really disappointed not to pass, but did at 11+. Said it really helped sitting the 10+. Only a good thing, although still hard to see your DC going through it at such a tender age....

DS has got an interview. very surprised, but the teacher he / we had hadn't said to expect not to finish the maths, so that's why he thought he had done badly. Anyway, let's see what happens now...

Good luck for all other DCs

Well done Onlyhearsay! That's brilliant. Good on your DS. It was a tough exam. Do let us know how your DS gets on.

We're over the disappointment now! As you say, it was great practice for the 10+ and we had a nice email exchange with Admissions (about something separate) and whilst they didn't give us the detailed feedback yet they were very encouraging about DS passing the 11+ so perhaps he narrowly missed out this time.

Best of luck!

Has anyone heard from Hampton today?? I am at work so haven't seen the post!

Itsonlyhearsay · 29/11/2018 19:07

Sorry for the late reply,

Yes, letters were out today.

Fingers crossed for everyone.

@onlyhearsay I know this is an old thread but my DS has an interview on Monday for the Hampton 10 plus ... they have said it's still selective etc .. any tips on preparation etc and did you get and take the place?

Itsonlyhearsay · 17/11/2019 08:55

There is a good thread already on here with tips etc. 'Hampton 10plus'. Yes, we accepted the place. Sitting 11+ again this year for scholarship. Smile

Itsonlyhearsay · 17/11/2019 08:56

To try and get a scholarship, that is!
