More of you secondary school teachers pleeeeeease. I would like to know when

My sd failed a couple of needed exams last year and chose to stay on in the sixth form to retake.

She is a little devil and hasnt kept her dad informed of the exam situation.

First she said she sat them in January and results would be Mar or April. Er hem, we are still waiting.

Is the truth really that she will sit them with other exams in May for results in August.

Help, X not helpful and nor is the school.

in what way isn't the school helpful? I'd make an appt to see your dd's tutor and don't take no for an answer. Or is there not a parents evening soon? If the school won't make an appt insist on seeing the Head.

Ah well it is complicated. The school only allows one appointment for the parents evening. As mum is the main carer and general pain in the A. She insists that she goes which leaves dh out of the loop.

Dh sent an email to the head earlier in the year wishing to be kept informed and giving a brief explanation of the difficulties with communication with his X and dd.

Head showed the email to dd and never replied to us. It caused such ructions.

So wondered if anyone had an idea of the general dates that these thing take place on.

are you saying she is supposed to retake AS levels or GCSEs ? because the former would take place in Jan, the latter in November.

If she has retaken AS exams she will have already had the results.Ditto GCSEs - I can't understand the complication here.Has she actually sat them?

Well it differs for each exam board but the normal GCSEs are taken in May for August results. Traditionally, retakes are done in NOvember if you're taking the same exam but I can't really say for sure without details of the exam and the board. The ones she says she took in Feb might have been mocks?? but that seems a bit late... were these GCSEs?

yes just GCSE in two subjects! So she should of taken them and got results by now then?

if they are GCSEs from last summer that she has retaken then yes - she would have sat them in November of last year and had the results ages ago. Sounds like she is giving you the runaround to me.

Yes - if she is in Yr 12 and studying for her AS exams, she should have sat any GCSE retakes in November and had the results by now. I'm surprised by the attitude of the school - at ours, unless there's a court order preventing it, we send out a copy each of all reports, etc to separated parents, and I can't imagine that we would refuse to update any parent on how their child was doing. I think your DH needs to contact them again - can he email her form tutor?

Strange isnt it that the school went to dd with a private email addressed to the Head.
Its even worse that he hasnt replied.

I surmise that head knew dd had been lying and was giving her the chance to put things straight before he replied.

Neither has happened evidently!

What terminology would he need to use to ask for the correct report dd?

if she is over 16 - which she must be - then I assume the HEad was trying to appeal to her sense of maturity by allowing her to be the one to inform you that she has been lying.

my advice is to telephone the head of year and request a meeting. That way all the relevant info can be discussed ....much easier in the long run than phone messages and emails which aren't always returned.

Actually it may depend on the subjects and the exam board. Not all exam boards offer November resits for every subject - sometimes it's only core subjects like Maths and English. Other subjects like Science may be modular.

I would ring the school (or get DH to), explain the situation and ask for a copy of the exam timetable if she's still to sit exams in May/June.

Thanks, it seem a phone call is in order. I think it was English and maths she needed a slightly higher grade to enter her chosen college.
