Grey Court School or Orleans Park School

Hi,I'm not yet a London local, but hope to be one soon. We will be moving to Richmond, London from abroad in the summer and I need to find schools for my DD who will start secondary school in september 2018.
I am considering Grey Court School and Orleans Park School. We will be in their waiting lists. I wondered if anyone with real life experience could give me an idea about the schools. DD is an academic and sporty student who has enough English to survive in the school. Unfortunately I don't know any one locally to ask. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean grey coat school?

refusetobeasheep · 12/04/2018 15:46

Grey Court rates well nowadays. I live in the catchment and all parents seem to be happy. I cannot answer to New Orleans.

Or indeed Orleans Park ... !

Ds left Orleans last summer. My take is it’s an OK school. I think it is better for girls than boys. Academically kids do OK. I don’t think they push them hard enough and homework can be patchy. If you are a middle of the road student it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. They are keen on their sport and if you are in a team there is lots of encouragement. If not it’s a bit meh after year9.
They is quite a lot of low level disruption it some classes, depends on the teachers.
I don’t know Greycourt personally but I think it is the better school.
Twickenham school seems to be improving. The new RUT school has good reviews.
There is a very long thread about schools on the Richmond local page.

Grey Court has the better reputation locally although Orleans is still pretty good especially on national terms but as pp said, it does have a lot of low level disruption esp from boys. I was sitting in the reception only a few weeks ago and was amazed at the calls the receptionist was making to "security" re disruption in a couple of classes and even a couple of escapees. It may have been a bad day of course but my DC have friends there and they say the only thing they don't like is the disruption during class.

My DC has an offer of a place at Grey Court for 6th Form. He would go there if it wasn't such a schlep from where we live. He's also been offered a place at Orleans but interestingly they can only let him do 3 A levels as opposed to the 4 he wants to do Hmm

If he's academic it's worth asking Grey Court how many GCSE's they can do, because it's reduced to 9 at Orleans Park now.
