Godolphin & Latymer vs SHHS 11+

My dd received offers at both SHHS and G&L and we are trying to decide which to take. We will go back to the offers days next week before deciding. We are leaning towards Godolphin except for the commute (which is relatively easy on the Hammersmith & City line but still 30-45 minutes away versus a 25 minute bus ride to SHHS). My daughter is sporty so she likes the facilities at Godolphin, though imo they are on par. Godolphin seemed like a nicer place to go to school, overall friendlier girls and atmosphere. The IB program is appealing at Godolphin as we’d like her to go university in the States. Academically they seem equivalent, perhaps Godolphin a step above but depends how you slice the numbers. Head teachers seem fantastic at both. Overall, I am worried about the commute to Godolphin getting tedious especially with after school sports fixtures ending late or early starts with morning clubs. Godolphin also seemed quite moneyed and tbh we are happy to be able to affford the fees at £7k a term but don’t have a summer home in the South of France or a ski chalet in St. Moritz, amongst other things. 😉

They are both good schools. Choose the one with the easiest journey.

We rent so we could always move to make journey easier.

Which does your DD prefer? Sounds like you prefer G&L. DD is at SHHS and very happy- definitely friendly, lots of sports and great academics. There are a mix of girls - some wealthy of course but a reasonable number of normal families.

Go back for the 'offer holder' mornings - you still have time and opportunity to choose.
Unlike for CLSG...

I am leaning toward Godolphin but SHHS so much easier for our family. My son at school in Hampstead and as we rent we could move up there and she could walk to school. Seems a no brainer but my heart leaning towards Godolphin. My daughter away for the half term without us so will have to weigh the pros and cons when she gets back on Sunday and attend offers mornings on Tuesday. Would like to make a decision sooner rather than later. Seems it can be debated endlessly and I know she will be happy either place.

If your son at school in Hampstead and you would think of moving, wouldn't that surely be difficult then in terms of him? In terms of having an easier journey, I'm all for that! commuting a long way is very annoying and tedious in the morning... and also think of where her friends would be living, ie. socialising...
I understand the draws of GL, it certainly is a fantastic school.. Is your DD also leaning towards GL? Both amazing schools to have offers from!

I think DD is leaning towards Godolphin but is nervous about the commute and also going to a school where she knows no one. No one from her current primary school has taken a place at Godolphin in the last 5 years. We will go on Tuesday to offers morning and hope to have more clarity then.

Sorry to interrupt but Is there an offer holders morning at Godolphin? I didn’t see that in our information package.

We are leaning towards Godolphin but I have no insight into SHHS. Have only heard good things about both!

DecisiontimeW9 · 18/02/2018 16:37

Offers holders morning at Godolphin on Tuesday or Thursday this week. We will be there on Tuesday. Just email the registrar.

DecisiontimeW9, thank you for the information. We assumed there wasn’t one!

And best of luck on your decision. I’m
Sure it will work out either way but i understand the debating. Trying the journey on the open days will hopefully help.

DecisiontimeW9 · 21/02/2018 20:26

Godolphin it is. Attending open days was very helpful and made the decisions quite clear. We were fortunate that both schools honoured the offer and we had the opportunity to visit both without the pressure of having to make a snap decision.
