HABS Girls Vs Latymer Upper

My DD has been offered place from HABS girls n Latymer Upper!
We like both the schools and confused which one to go for her, she too love both the schools.
It would be great to hear from the current parents whose DD/ DS are currently studying in HABS n Latymer and share their experience!

They’re miles away from each other so I’d go for which ever is closest. Personally I’m a fan of Coed so that would also be a consideration. Remember that if you’re on the far reaches of Habs and in west London or close to it there will be children out near luton at the other end of the extreme although the majority will be NW London and Herts

Where are you based? To me ultimate deal-breaker considering these are 2 exceptional schools

Thanks Yvest , we are based in NW of London! For HABS we will have to go for a coach service and from our place and Latymer Upper I can take her as my office is just few stops away from School if she doesn't wants to come with me then coach service for Latymer too!
If we go by League tables HABS is high then Latymer but not much difference but Latymer she has got a scholarship too!
So totally confused!

Hi Buzzingmama we are based in NW of London both schools are of equal distance I would say 35-40 mins from our place.

Congrats to you and your dd Floral! Both fantastic schools . No personal experience w LU, but have kids at Habs and cannot be happier with the school. We just made a similar choice ( over Highgate and nlcs ) and don’t regret it. Lots of families commute from all over NW london ( Swiss Cottage , hampstead , Golders Green etc. loads from mill hill and Stanmore and a bunch from Radlett, St Albans and around Herts. ) coach network is amazing and the vast majority of kids take the coach. We are within 30min of the school and no complaints. It’s definitely not co-ed like LU but you do get the benefit of proximity to the boys school so they do mix on the coaches, during social events and have opportunities to take mixed classes in sixth form.
What clinched it for us was how happy, easy going, down to earth, open and lovely the girls were - definitely a bit of a different vibe than the others Smile.
Tough decision but at least none of those employ exploding offers so you can revisit the schools and make a calm informed choice !

Agree. I think Habs is much more mixed socially obviously there are girls from wealthy families but equally plenty who aren’t, lots with siblings in state schools and sacrificing things to pay fees.

Yvest I am not sure if I agree. LU has lots commuting in from Ealing and Sheen and a large bursary programme, so a good social mix. Many will be there because they failed to get a place at Tiffin. Yes thete will also be a Central London group but surely that is slso true of Habs.

I don’t know anything about LU, just that it’s a really good mixed school in Hammersmith it’s miles from us I meant compared to a lot of other private schools Habs is quite down to earth. I know it very well.

Having a scholarship will mean a reduction in fees so that is a certain draw... However a huge majority of the girls at Habs will be living in NW london so that would be good for socialising whereas I doubt there are that many LU living in NW, but I might be wrong..

Hi Schoolmadness2016 thanks for your valuable input very helpful! Indeed we found the girls and staff very welcoming and down to earth!
We too have to work out on Coach service for both the schools waiting for the half term to over and check with both the schools about coach facilities and of course the cost!

Yes stressful time and but trying to
Keep calm and work out what will be good for her!

We will be visiting both the schools again and hopefully should have more clearer picture!

Buzzingmama scholarship is definitely a plus point but at the moment I m trying to keep scholarship at one side and seeing which school she will fit into best! We are also ok with Co-ed and or single sex that's not problem too, we are looking in terms of academic where she will benefit the most !
But your one point I totally agree about socialising which I didn't think abt it and yes that needs to be taken into consideration too! Thanks

I don't think LUS have a coach service. Pupils travel there by tube, bus or car. It's very well communicated.
