Just wondering what dc will be wearing for these interviews really.

Are suits expected?

Dd wore a suit.

Either school uniform, a suit (but only if the prospective 6th form insists on students wearing them at school) or jeans etc. (local 6th form college).

WhatHaveIFound · 13/10/2017 13:54

Gosh, what DD would wear never even occured to me.

We have two school visits organised for next week, not interviews as such but meeting their Head of Sixth Form. Should DD buy a suit?

AlexanderHamilton · 13/10/2017 13:54

Dd will be applying for performing arts subjects including an audition so will be wearing dancewear, tracksuit & a dress she can slip on over the top.

AChickenCalledKorma · 13/10/2017 13:55

I would probably look at the dress code for their existing sixth form students and follow that. (But I'm going to watch this thread because dd1 is in year 11 and this very good question hadn't even occurred to me!)

We've been to several open events in the last few weeks and all teens seem to have been wearing denim of some description, hoodies/padded jackets and boots or trainers.

The dress code seems pretty relaxed at the college dd is interested in and I was wondering if smart black trousers and a blouse would be ok?

Mine went to sixth form college 'interviews' in school uniform as they had either just come from school or were going to school. If not, they would have worn smart jeans or similar as it's not a formal dress code at the college.

pointythings · 13/10/2017 17:18

DD's 6th form has no uniform and a very relaxed dress code. It was the only one we considered because it was her current school's 6th form, highly regarded and a good academic fit for her.

She went in black jeans and an Iron Maiden T-shirt and DMs. Which is pretty much what she wears now she's studying there.

Assuming it's a state sixth form the interview won't be to offer a place or not, just to chat about subject choice etc. So jeans and a hoodie! Unless going from school in which case everyone'll be in school uniform.

Stickerrocks · 13/10/2017 21:59

Unripped jeans & a smart top, the same as she wore for her work experience week.

TheSecondOfHerName · 13/10/2017 23:19

As a guide, look at the dress code for the students who are already there.

So at an interview for the sixth form DS1 attends (dress code is jacket and tie), it would be appropriate to wear a suit.

He also had an interview for the FE college where many of his friends go (no dress code); he wore black skinny jeans and a shirt.

AtiaoftheJulii · 14/10/2017 02:21

For my two, the interview was during the school day, so just school uniform.
