DS needs a new coat (after losing his lovely MK one last term!) he is they type to wear a coat because he hates being cold before anyone says teenaged don't wear coats! What's in fashion at the moment? He's going into yr 8. Thanks.

Well on the basis that teenagers don't wear coats I guess that nothing is in fashion! So perhaps he should just pick what he wants to wear.

SecondaryQuandary · 03/09/2017 12:29

Just bought my DS (Y9) a Nike one. North Face seem popular too

AlexanderHamilton · 03/09/2017 12:32

Ds refused to wear a coat until we spotted a padded one in Timberland. I gritted my teeth against designer labels, bought it & he's worn it to death.

TitsalinaBumSqoosh · 03/09/2017 13:12

Ha! Most the kids seem to have coats here or jackets, maybe we live in the twilight zone. 😀

Lots seem to have superdry , or parkas.

Showandtell · 03/09/2017 14:41

North Face padded jackets

MrsLandingham · 03/09/2017 17:59

Writing as a teacher and a parent, it's a waste of time buying a coat for secondary school pupils. They just refuse to wear it, and are impervious to our fretting about them being cold and wet Confused

I'm always surprised by these threads. I see teenage girls wearing coats every winter to school. Normally parka style ones. If you watch those Educating Yorkshire etc programmes they wear them on that too. Is it maybe boys that don't wear them as i tend to notice what girls are wearing more as i have dds.

RedSkyAtNight · 04/09/2017 17:01

I wonder if it is area dependent? You can sit outside DS's secondary school for ages before you see anyone wearing a coat. Mind you, their lockers aren't really big enough to put coats in, but I'm not sure which came first ...

pourmeanotherglass · 04/09/2017 17:06

My DDS won't wear them. They have to wear a blazer, and find a coat over the top uncomfortable. Dd1 has a fake leather jacket for out of school, DD2 just wears hoodies. They both have waterprrof raincoats for scouts/camp etc but never wear them otherwise.

misscph1973 · 04/09/2017 17:12

At my DD's school they can wear a V-neck jumper under the blazer in winter. Seems a hit with many of the older students (both girls and boys). Some put a hoodie on under their blazer. I don't really get this, but it's better than no coat.

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 04/09/2017 17:18

They do have lockers at dd's comp so maybe that's it. They have to wear a jumper and blazer in winter too. Perhaps they are just soft southerners? I'll try and take more notice of whether the boys wear them too this winter.

mywayalltheway · 04/09/2017 17:24

DS has a black padded Nike one and DD a black padded Ellesse one.

SecondaryQuandary · 04/09/2017 17:38

All DSs Y8 lot wore them last winter.

Very soft southerners, mind. Grin

ponderingprobably · 04/09/2017 17:45

I just make mine pack a cagoule. Wears it in absolute downpours only.

Allthebestnamesareused · 04/09/2017 19:03

Fur trimmed hooded parka!

user1487671808 · 04/09/2017 19:09

Ours wear blazers and refuse to wear coats over the top. They hate them anyway as they don't have lockers so have to carry them round all day. A tshirt under their shirts and a beanie seems to keep them warm enough.

Orangeplastic · 04/09/2017 20:57

Ds wears a parka style raincoat - keeps it in his bag and uses it when needed. He has a 30min walk home. Dd will also wear a parka but she likes a padded one - more important to have the right scarf!

elektrawoman · 05/09/2017 00:20

I've been wondering about this coat over blazer issue. Our secondary school says it has to be a plain blue or black coat, with no logos. I guess the blazer plus jumper underneath option will be OK for now but what about when its pouring with rain? Or freezing cold?
I have looked for a plain lightweight waterproof coat without a logo and they are impossible to find!

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 05/09/2017 00:21

Dd uses an umbrella in summer and a coat over her blazer in winter.

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 05/09/2017 00:25

If it's the sort of torrential rain and wind where an umbrella would be useless i give her a lift. (This happened three times last year.)

grufallosfriend · 05/09/2017 07:29

What if it snows?

TitsalinaBumSqoosh · 05/09/2017 08:23

We have a jumper as part of the uniform but DS assures me that wearing would make him an outcast forever 🙄 so I've never actually seen a child in a jumper under their blazer, even at 3am when I had to drop a load of them to school for a French day trip in December and it was freezing.
I shall have to go into tkmaxx or something f and see what's on offer in the way of coats, he'll deffo wear one. I'll just hope he doesn't lose it like the last one.

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 05/09/2017 09:21

Is that question to me gruffalos?

grufallosfriend · 05/09/2017 10:48

No, anyone. I'm honestly wondering what some of these boys wear when it's minus 5 and snows in the winter...!? (Ok, it doesn't happen often in the U.K. Smile)
