GCSE results - when do schools find out?

Asking because a friend told me that at her dd's (private) school they find out a day or so beforehand and if a pupil has really bombed (e.g. Not good enough to stay for 6th Form) they will have a word in advance so that there isn't an upset on the day. Is there any truth in this?

CIE results are issued at 5:00 GMT and can be released immediately.

Day before. DD knew didn't know her results but knew she'd done well because the school asked her (and a few others) to come in early for results and photos for the local newspaper.

I felt very sorry for one girl and her mum who had turned up early without invite and they refused to give out her results till the proper time.

*typo ignore the first knew.

notangelinajolie that's interesting. DS's school (super-selective) doesn't participate in such things and they seem to be the only local school that never reports on the results days on how the boys have done...not sure why though.

BigGreenOlives · 05/08/2017 11:29

Because the super selectives see education as more than certificates - enrichment & broader curriculum. Also they will look at papers & request remarks so early results are usually not as good as they will be in the end.

@BigGreenOlives that makes perfect sense!
