Because we need a new thread now that things are really hotting up!

OP posts:
Laniakea · 24/05/2017 14:44

physics - 'alright' (which prob means not great), they all thought it a weird paper, harder than biol & chem but dd didn't leave any out. I haven't looked to see what twitter thought!

Bloody maths tomorrow.

t875 · 24/05/2017 14:52

I think dd being at home to revise has been a good idea. She can get side tracked at times but generally very good.

Yeah the holidays will be hard especially with her sister about too and friends off Smile

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 14:56

"Went well, I think". But he has said that about everything. He is an eternal optimist.

Twitter does not appear to agree..........

ifonly4 · 24/05/2017 14:57

DD just reported on physics exam (OCR 21st century). Some are saying it was awful, some saying it went well. She says it went well for her and feels what she's done is higher than her predicted grade - time will tell. It's not her strongest subject, but she managed to put some relevant down for everything.

Laniakea, echo your thoughts on maths!

Fleurdelise · 24/05/2017 14:58

I got the "yeah it was good". That generally means positive, he tells me when he found it hard, however twitter seems to think it was hard. Hmm

Laniakea · 24/05/2017 15:04

dd says she thinks she got 53/60 (!) she always over estimates (how lovely to be an optimist) but that is lower than all the previous P1 papers she's done at school & home ... so yeah either harder or stranger than usual. I suspect an element of complacency too.

I will be drinking wine this evening. dd has refused to go to the maths revision sessions.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2017 15:11

Ds back from physics (OCR). It was "hard and I didn't know every answer immediately." I think he's tough on himself. Reminded him he usually gets A/A* but only needs a C and he seemed mollified.

Laniakea · 24/05/2017 15:30

dd has just got on school bus home - there were police officers outside the school (bear in mind they are in deepest darkest village in West Berkshire). They got told they shouldn't all be hanging around together (they were waiting for their buses) & that they needed to "do their part" "be mature". One of the 6th form asked why they were there & they were told because the threat level was increased. There have never been police there before. DD cheerfully said that they weren't armed though.

I'm just wtaf. This is insane Sad

Iamnotminterested · 24/05/2017 16:01

AQA physics here, her second worst subject after chemistry. Not home yet.

Iamnotminterested · 24/05/2017 16:07

Just home and it was "Bearable. Better than chemistry. I even tried some of the mathsy questions."

Not maths here as she did it last year ☺☺☺

Fleurdelise · 24/05/2017 16:07

Laniakea that is mental.

DS got an A* in the P1 mock last month so I think he'd be disappointed if he doesn't get an A but funnily enough it shouldn't matter as he's not doing Physics A level.

His worst subjects are Computer Science, PE and English Lit in this order.

Maths tomorrow, I feel actually sick, this is the subject where his target was 9 but got 4 in mock, Sad It can go either way I suppose, we would never expect a 9 even though DS is in a selective school in top 20% but a 7 would have been great. Oh well, hopefully is a pass.

Iamnotminterested · 24/05/2017 16:07

No maths, even.

Laniakea · 24/05/2017 16:13

if dd gets a 6 I will be opening a bottle of champagne

castleontheground · 24/05/2017 16:15

Oh dear. Hoping to get on here to be told Edexcel physics paper was really hard and bizarre. Dd has maths tomorrow then English and has got to pick herself up for those. There is an article in the Telegraph already to say how awful it was but it doesn't make her feel better.

Sprog19 · 24/05/2017 16:19

Physics 'all right' here too - worst science so far though.

Fleurdelise · 24/05/2017 16:27

Laniakea after the mocks same here, if he gets a 6 in maths I'll be over the moon after the 4 in mocks. I feel they really fucked up with the maths new grades, DS went from being confident and loving maths up to year 9 to hating it and saying he's not good at it. And this was his strong subject. Even his maths teacher who has known him since yr 7 teaching him several times was shocked and disappointed to hear this Year that he's not applying for maths A levels. With what, with a 4 in mocks?! He thinks he's crap at it. Makes me so angry.

humblesims · 24/05/2017 16:29

My DS just got back from Edexcel and doesnt seem too phased by it, which is a bit worrying in itself considering there is a lot of talk about how hard it was. O well onward and upward as they say.

Ontopofthesunset · 24/05/2017 16:34

DS seems quite relieved with how his Physics went - it is his worst subject and he was doing lots of last minute past paper cramming this morning. There will be Ovid and Catullus cramming tonight.

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 16:40

So why do pizza ovens have curved roofs?

havinganightmare · 24/05/2017 16:40

Tricky and tough - edexcel physics Pass that wine......

o well, didn't see a 3 mark question...

CrazedZombie · 24/05/2017 16:47

Physics was great apparently.

Ds got a 4 in his mock but can get A* in old spec so hoping for at least a 6. I've had him practice writing neater too as his handwriting is shit and we don't want him to lose marks over that. He knows his formulae.
