My DS has come home from Edexcel maths completely convinced that he missed a page. Desperately wants an 8 in order to do Further Maths but now not optimistic. Is taking Further Maths GCSE as well so has another chance to prove himself.

BertrandRussell · 08/06/2017 11:40

Sorry, I meant EdExel too. Another "Very, very hard".....

Just invigilated Edexcel Maths. Last year we had just four students sitting the Foundation paper. Today it was over 80%. Speaks volumes.

drivinmecrazy · 08/06/2017 11:48

Edexcel really nasty! DD began her GCSE'S hoping for a 7 or above for maths. She changed her expectations to a 6 after paper 1 and is now resigned to a 5, if she's lucky!
Absolutely no idea what purpose it serves for our kids to sit a paper that seems to baffle even the brightest
Completely and utterly shite!
On the plus side twitter is a really funny distraction, good to see the kids still have their sense of hour in tact

LittleHo · 08/06/2017 11:50

ds liked Edexcel maths but it is his best subject by far.

However lots in his school found it hard so the grade boundaries will drop. Although they did say it was better than the first paper. Apparently it was a weird structure with an easier question at the end & some didn't realise until too late.

drivinmecrazy · 08/06/2017 11:51

'humour' not 'hour'

user1495025590 · 08/06/2017 11:54

OCR maths - didn't finish but what she did was okish

GiraffeorOcelot · 08/06/2017 11:56

AQA maths here, DS said it was "hard but ok". Not sure if he finished, I asked a question to which I got "can we not?" as a reply!

Fleurdelise · 08/06/2017 11:58

Oh gosh, DS thought maths was quite good, not as hard as he was expecting. Now the reports here are saying something else so I wonder if the got a lot wrong. Shock

keepondreaming · 08/06/2017 11:58

Also invigilated Edexcel maths. Most, as they left, were groaning. Seeing bits of the paper as I paced, it looked horr

keepondreaming · 08/06/2017 11:59

...horrible.

unfortunateevents · 08/06/2017 12:02

Oh God, DS doing Edexcel Maths, hoping just to pass. Haven't heard from him as he has Eng Lang revision immediately afterwards. He has worked so hard for this, will be devestated for him if he doesn't pass.

Laniakea · 08/06/2017 12:04

AQA "better than the first paper"

readyforsunshine · 08/06/2017 12:06

Fleur my Ds too. He said it just suited his brain, he felt it went way better than non calc. He said that général feeling amongst others was it was very tough.
Im just so relieved he's got through it was so worried about this one.

TisGlorious · 08/06/2017 12:06

DS did EdExel Maths. Said It was a good paper but he was completely stumped on the last question and couldn't answer it.

Dancergirl · 08/06/2017 12:09

Edexcel maths paper 4H here. Dd said it was very hard, she's a bit upset. Last few questions she didn't have a clue. Thinks she might have got 50-60%. Hope the grade boundaries will be low.

She said 2 of the invigilators were loudly whispering and laughing right in from of her which disturbed her. That shouldn't happen should it?

Merrylegs · 08/06/2017 12:13

Yup, DD found hers really tough - and she had revised so hard as well. Her exact words were 'Oh well, I can always retake'. Nooo!

The student room concurs though (even from those hoping to do Maths A level) so fingers crossed for low grade boundaries.

Madhairday · 08/06/2017 12:18

Not heard from DD (edexcel maths) - she usually texts me after the exam to say how it went. Hoping she's just caught up with friends somewhere and not feeling like she messed up. Sounds like it was horrible.

pasanda · 08/06/2017 12:18

DS found it better than the first paper (Edexcel) but couldn't answer some questions. He's lowered his expectations from before he started the exams from a 7 to a pass if he's lucky Hmm It seems a lot feel the same so hopefully the grade boundaries will be lower. He's just pleased it's over I think!

Bert - I can't believe you had to buy a calculator this morning!!! Shock The stress of that I just can't imagine.

Dancer - no, that really should not have happened. I'm not surprised you're pissed off.

Dancergirl · 08/06/2017 12:22

Thanks pasanda will drop an email to the examinations officer. Dd lacks confidence in maths as it is, I really hope it didn't affect her performance.

Madhairday · 08/06/2017 12:26

That's shocking Dancer Shock definitely report.

QueenofQuirkiness · 08/06/2017 12:28

Edexcel maths was really hard according to DD. Feeling a bit disheartened

CrazedZombie · 08/06/2017 12:34

Ds found Edexcel Maths super long. He usually finishes exams in plenty of time but said that he could have done with another 20 minutes or so.

It's good to hear that others found it hard too. Hopefully the boundaries will be low.

RedHelenB · 08/06/2017 12:39

Invigilators should only whisper of absolutely necessary.
