Dr Challoner's Grammar School

Hi,

We live in High Wycombe and are 10 miles from Dr Challoner's Grammar School.

My son just scored 158 on his 11 plus and I was wondering if it was still possible to get accepted into that school. I hear that they do only prioritise based on home distance to school.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Highly unlikely. The school is oversubscribed and has previously filled places with children in the catchment area (map link below)

Did you not check the admissions criteria before your DC sat the exam?

The qualifying score is 121 (anything above that isn't relevant) and then allocations are done on distance.

Last year no places were given to out of area applicants on allocations day. The distance cut off was 7.018 miles (straight line measurement).

It sounds very unlikely unfortunately. We lived in the catchment for DCGS until a couple of years ago, and even boys living on the edge of (but within) the catchment area were missing out on places there due to the popularity of the school. RGS in High Wycombe is also very good though - unless you're firmly in the catchment for John Hampden then presumably your DS will have a good shot at getting into RGS? I know virtually nothing about the John Hampden so can't comment on it!

My understanding is that the child's 11+ actual pass mark is relevant in some counties (such as where we live now - the next county over to us is an 11+ county so DS would have to score way higher than the actual pass mark to get a grammar school place in that county) but not in Bucks.
