High school sports question

My eldest DC is now y6 so high school beckons but I am ignorant of what high school is like nowadays.

Regarding sports, is it normal/usual for girls/boys to do different sports in PE just based on their sex?

(I'm asking as one of our feeder high schools lists football boots on the uniform list as only being for boys which has shocked me hugely)

Partly, ime, yes, boys do basketball & rugby, girls do netball & hockey, a few other examples, probably. Both do swimming, rounders, cricket, gymnastics, tennis, badminton.

The girls are supposed to have cleats for hockey, too, but in reality, many parents find they can just buy trainers for girls to wear in hockey. Which saves money, so why wouldn't they.

DD's school splits for PE and they do some different sports.

What I really like, is that they set for PE, but the kids can choose whether they want to be in the 'competitive' set or the 'just for fun' set.

DS's school splits into girls and boys for PE. They do seem to do a range of sports though which doesn't seem particularly gender focused (both have done hockey and football, for example).

My DC's school has seperate equipment lists for boys and girls sports. The boys do rugby, football & cricket and the girls do hockey & netball. Both do athletics and there's a range of optional racket sports plus climbing and swimming.

However girls can do football, rugby and cricket as extra curricular activities so would need equipment for those which aren't on their list.

Some schools do football for girls and some don't. There are lots of football clubs that take girls, so maybe then it is not a priority at school. It does not shock me at all. What scholsteach boys netball? We do not worry about that do we? There are probably not enough pitches to offer football and hockey and rugby. It will also depend whether they can pay other schools in the sports chosen. If they are the only school doing football for miles around, then there is no point in a school team which does not allow the better footballers to develop. Usually schools choose the sports that allow them to play other schools without travelling miles and miles.

Our school split up the sexes but they do the same sports so girls will do rugby, cricket and footie as well as the boys.

We are in Scotland but boys and girls are split for PE. I'm not sure if they do different sports as I only have a boy at high school so far, but he has done gymnastics and general fitness class things as well as football and indoor hockey.
