PE/Sports kit bag for Year 7

So I'm thinking DS's current PE kit bag with his name on and an embroidered sailing boat probably isn't quite right for secondary school...what kind of bags do your DSs use?

Ds has an adidas gym type of affair. Black and v simple.

eyebrowsonfleek · 28/08/2016 18:05

Picked Nike one at Sports Direct.

jr2116 · 28/08/2016 18:28

Most boys including my DS use the drawstring bags you get when you buy something at JD.

cece · 28/08/2016 19:30

DS1 has this bag Most of his friends seem to have holdall ones that are similar but they all do a lot of sport so use them out of school too.

DD has a rucksack that is a similar size to her school bag. Just a black and white Puma one.

cece · 28/08/2016 19:32

Drawstring bags wouldn't hold all of DS1s kit. Although it would probably hold DDs PE kit. Boys seems to have more PE uniform. Hmm

eyebrowsonfleek · 29/08/2016 01:22

Hold-alls are definitely better for fitting big shoes in. (Ds left primary school a size 6 and is now a 10.5)

228agreenend · 29/08/2016 01:31

Ds 1 used a hold-all type bag. Ds 2 uses one small rucksack for outdoor games, and another for indoor games. Both have sports labels. Not quite sure how he has accumulated three school bags.

TwigTheWonderKid · 29/08/2016 09:08

Thanks all. What we have so far will just about go in a draw string bag so I think I'll get a plain one of those to start with and see how he goes with that.

DD and most of her friends use the drawstring JD sports bags

elderberryflower · 29/08/2016 09:17

Drawstring here due to tiny lockers that wouldn't fit a hold-all.

Balletgirlmum · 29/08/2016 09:23

Me way would a drawstring fit ds kit. He has one of the smalle Nike holdalls. Dd has a holdall style dance bag.

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/08/2016 09:29

It depends. My sons use a plain nylon drawstring bag and shove this into their voluminous rucksacks.

My daughter takes a small holdall.

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/08/2016 09:32

Boys seems to have more PE uniform.

I've found the opposite to be true, partly because DD wears a PE hoody in the winter, whereas the boys seem to wear short sleeves and shorts all year round (with a thin base layer if it's snowing).

DomesticAnarchist · 29/08/2016 09:38

Yes to drawstring bag.

Please, please can you put his name (albeit discreetly if you like) all over the bag and kit. (A name on the outside of the bag would be very welcome so I don't have to root through damp/sweaty kit)

You would not believe the number of year 7s who lose kit and deny/don't recognise their own bags!

LooseAtTheSeams · 29/08/2016 13:34

Plain black drawstring bag from M + S and comes with label on the outside for name and form!

TheSecondOfHerName · 29/08/2016 13:37

Y7s denying their PE kits? Do they do it three times before the cock crows? Grin

DomesticAnarchist · 29/08/2016 14:43

I don't get your reference Blush but what I mean is you know this bag belongs to a particular child and they flat out deny it repeatedly. Said bag goes into the lost-property mountain never to be seen again.

I can't force an 11/12 year old to take the bag home!

Balletgirlmum · 29/08/2016 14:50

I'd love to know what schools have so little kit it cdm go in a drawstring bag!

Ds has:

Aertex polo shirt
Rugby/hockey top
Joggers
Hoody
Black shorts
White shorts
White sports socks
Long rugby/hockey/football socks
Shinpads
Mouth guard
Trainers
Rugby boots

The girls have exactly the same except they have a skort instead of black shorts

QueenofLouisiana · 29/08/2016 18:14

I've been wondering about this. DS is going to a school with no lockers to stash PE kit.

I'm a bit concerned that he'll have to carry it about everywhere.

PumpkinPie9 · 29/08/2016 19:04

I'd love to know what schools have so little kit it cdm go in a drawstring bag!

Dd attends a Surrey comp and has:

Polo shirt for all sports
Skort for all sports
White sports socks
Long hockey socks
Shinpads (only takes if has hockey)
Mouth guard (only takes if has hockey)
Trainers for all sports. (I think they play hockey on astro turf)
There is a track suit option but none of them wear it. I think they wear their school jumper if cold.

Balletgirlmum · 29/08/2016 19:09

A lot less than Ds then

They do hockey on Astro so cdm wear normal trainers but have to have rugby boots too.

The rugby shirt is worn for hockey/rugby with the black shorts but it's all weather so they have to have their hoody/tracksuit bottoms available at all times

The polo shirt & white shorts are worn for PE (as opposed to games) so cross country/athletics/tennis/gym/fitness equipment etc.

They have to have it all with them in case of changes.

PumpkinPie9 · 29/08/2016 19:16

I was quite confused when dd came back from school with clean shoes after hockey. We used to have black hockey boots in the 80s and it was a very muddy affair.
I was also worried about the no tracksuit. We had a delightful bottle green ones back in the day, (plus bottle green pe knickers Hmm) but it doesn't seem to bother her. They do wear winter coats at her school though, so i should be grateful for small mercies.Smile He girls do anyway, not sure whether the boys do or not

PumpkinPie9 · 29/08/2016 19:17

No shin pads or mouth guards for hockey in our day though.

cece · 29/08/2016 19:18

DS has

polo shirt
rugby shirt
shorts
under armour
rugby padding thing he wears under his rugby shirt
rugby hat
rugby/football boots
astro trainers
trainers
long socks
short socks
mouthguard

He opted out of the tracksuit/hoody as he wears the under armour instead.

DD has

polo shirt
skort
shorts
socks x1
trainers
hoody

Balletgirlmum · 29/08/2016 19:37

Shinpads & mouthgusrds are compulsory now in hockey & if you saw the Olympic semi final that can only be a good thing!

Ds is a goalie (club not school) & wears a lot of protective kit.
