Hockerill Anglo European for Spanish kids

We are very interested in sending our bilingual (Eng/Spanish) son to Hockerill to do the IB (2 years full boarding as we live in Spain). However, we are unsure how "good" the grades he needs have to be. In the Spanish educational system, there are no GCSEs and teachers give grades more randomly (no external checking). Hence one school gives "higher" grades than another. We are even considering changing school to get better grades to get into Hockerill as our school is like a Grammar School and very hard. How "good" is "good" coming from continental Europe? So grateful for any help. Judith

Why not call them and ask? Fwiw we know a number of expat Brit/European families with DCs at UK state boarding schools including Hockerill. They like the bilinguals because with guaranteed high marks in language papers they boost their results.

Why don't you get your DS to do the UKISET in order to get a better idea of his academic level?

Perhaps you have already contact Hockerill by now but if not please do - they are used to taking people from Spain and will be able to give you good guidance. The min. standard for getting into sixth form for IB is higher than most schools (A in GCSE for Highers and B for Standards) but not super high and once you meet the minimum standard other factors are more important such as boarding need.
