Moving inside the borough. Can I keep the schools?

I am planning to eventually move inside Islington. Both my kids are in outstanding schools and I would not like this to change. Can anyone shed some light on if I will loose school positions by moving slightly farther away from the catchment areas?

Your children's school places cannot be taken away just because you move. That applies regardless of how far you move. You could move 100 miles away and keep your children at their current schools if you wanted, although transport might be a bit of a problem!

As said, they can't take away a school place. The rules on address only apply when you are putting in your application, as you have to use the address you are at on deadline day.

However- check you la website. Ours says something like if the increased distance leads to habitual lateness or absence, they can withdraw the place.

At least one local school here has a rule that if you move before the end of December for a child in year 7, and the new address is not in the 'priority admission area, the place may be reviewed and withdrawn. If one of your DC will be in Y7 in september, I guess it's something to check?

What that means is that a move will trigger an investigation to see if it was a fraudulent or misleading application, e.g. was a rented address used to get priority for a particular school. Unless there is evidence of a fraudulent or misleading application the place cannot be withdrawn. If the school concerned ever did withdraw a place simply because someone moved outside the priority admission area I would expect an appeal to reinstate the place.
