Options/Double/Triple Science

Dd is due to take her options later this year. We don't yet know which subjects will be in each column but she has to put in a preference then the groups will be put together.

Her science teacher says she is doing very well, however I have been concerned that she wasn't being stretched last year though things are improving this year.

Currently only double science is offered but the teacher says they are discussing with senior management whether they can start offering triple. However it would mean she would have to drop a subject (probably a humanities)

Currently she plans to take
Maths, English Lang, English Lit, Double Science, Dance (compulsory)
French, Music, IT (or a humanities) (options)

To me dropping one of the options in favour of triple science seems limiting but maybe it's because when I was at school you had to take a humanities subject)

I don't know exactly what A levels she plans to take but it's likely to include Drama or Music, a science, maybe maths or Computing.

In our school the ICT provision was appalling. In year 10 dd was well ahead with her course work ( Cambridge national) and on track to do the full qualification. 3 weeks before they sat the exam, we had a letter from school saying the students hadn't completed the course work and would only be entered for the half course, and they hadn't covered all the exam topics for that. They gave them the option to withdraw, which after a lot of stress, dd did ( her confidence destroyed),and the grammar she was going to weren't interested in a half GCSE.
Some of her peers did actually do well in the ICT exam. She got 11 A*/ As ( including triple science) and so far seems to be doing ok on her A level course.
What I'm saying is don't stress too much over ICT ( ds in year 10 hasn't even been offered it, but will probably do computer science in year12)

Sounds like it's quite a small school, which means she may not get much choice over which subject to drop to make space for triple science as it would depend on timetabling. I'm confused as to how her school plans to teach it though - at DS's school the kids doing triple science just go at a faster speed within the same amount of science lessons as the double science group have.

If they added in an extra block to cover the triple, who would teach it? Wouldn't they need a physics, a chemistry and a biology teacher? Or is one teacher planning to teach it all? Sounds dubious to me, especially as it would be new material they're not used to teaching for the double science.
