The school is named on MN? Avoid!

PerspicaciaTick · 06/10/2015 23:01

In which case I would be reading everything I could find and making my own judgement.

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 23:02

I would be ASing right away.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 06/10/2015 23:02

Wow! What does MN say??

The headmaster at ds's (all boys) school said something really sexist at his 'welcome to the school, new parents' speech. I was Hmm

DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:03

Is the school called PGS by any chance?

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:03

ASing??

LeChien · 06/10/2015 23:03

Well it can't be Queen Ethelburga's, they threaten to sue anyone who talks about them.

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:03

Dorothy Yep!

Strange because there's not a lot about the school on MN and I have ASed (advanced searched)

DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:04

What was your impression otherwise?

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:06

I haven't seen much either. Were you there Dorothy, or were you just guessing?

I liked it but I wasn't blown away. The children were great but the staff seemed largely disinterested, which was disappointing. In one room we visited, the teacher was sitting at her desk marking whilst a couple of 6th formers talked to visitors. I thought that was a bit crap.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/10/2015 23:10

Is it an academy?

Possibly beginning with K?

DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:10

Guessing because my two dd's were helping out at the open evening tonight and I know from previoys threads that you're in my area

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:16

The students we met were really fab - very articulate and confident. I liked the head, for the most part, but I did feel like the staff weren't really engaging with the visitors - kind of got the impression that they don't really feel they need to try - it's not like other schools where they're actively trying to attract new students. Maybe I'm biased - I'd spent the first half of the evening at open evening at the school where I teach, chatting to everyone who came through my classroom door. Not one teacher spoke to my DDs.

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:17

Rafa - no, it's the one Dorothy mentioned upthread.

OP posts:
DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:28

Which other schools will you go and see?

WhoAteMyToast · 06/10/2015 23:31

How very unprofessional of him, and how stupid - presumably most people wouldn't have made Mumsnet their first port of call in school research.

VimFuego101 · 06/10/2015 23:33

Well now even people who don't use MN will be logging on to see what posters are saying about the school!

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:42

Dorothy - not bothering with the other grammars and neither they nor we want single sex. Our closest comp is a good one so we're going there on Thursday but that's probably it for now. DC are yr 5 so no rush on the other comps really.

OP posts:
IguanaTail · 07/10/2015 00:50

What a silly thing for him to say. People will now immediately look! What was he thinking?

errorofjudgement · 07/10/2015 06:34

Just googled PGS, is this an independent school on the south coast?
