Sounds like you have it all under control!

DD is worrying about sixth form still - wants to go back into first choice to ask some questions (or she won't consider it at all), but year head is away...

SugarPlumTree · 13/07/2015 19:44

That all sounds very sensible HSM. That is a right PITA about year head BTM.

Glad visit went well Spudmasher and guess you are right about the rapid growing up.

Think DD has done a bit of that the last week or so as has been hanging around with people mostly 18 plus. It's gone 3 am in Japan and she is currently having an inter continental hissy fit as wants to change her non transferable ticket for a day to go on a road trip and come back later. I did ask Trailfinders, only way to do it is to buy a one way ticket at 2k so obviously not happening. Lots of anguished emails coming through. Think she might have finally stopped...

spudmasher · 13/07/2015 20:16

Inter continental hissy fit!!!! Well you've made a valiant attempt at solving the problem. Well done.

Just goes to show that mum can do anything and sort out any issue, even from thousands of miles away. DD2 phoned me from sports day to tell me she had lost her shoes last week.mi have no idea what I was meant to do about it from 5 miles away, but she thought it perfectly reasonable to call me.....

Leeds2 · 13/07/2015 20:40

I too love the idea of an inter continental hissy fit! DD is in Africa at the moment, so I await with bated breath .......

auntpetunia · 13/07/2015 22:10

Hehe love the "intercontinental hiss fit" I imagine if she hasn't got the £2 she'll just come home when she's supposed to! !!

BTM thanks for the insect repellent it arrived today, that's what you call service Smile.

leeds Africa.....These kids don't half get around, what is she doing.

DS despite being relatively sensible most of the time has managed tonight to nearly burn the house down, I left him with the slow cooker full of scouse this morning with instructions at 4.45 to tip it into the big pan and put on a low heat and add 1 pint of water, scouse is never right from the slow cooker, needs a while on the stove. Should be no problem you'd think, he's 16 he can manage that.... scouse went into the pan, heat went on (not low) no extra water, and he went out again!!!! Poor DD came home at 5.50 to the house billowing black horrible smoke as soon as she opened the front door, she says she couldn't see what she was doing it was that bad. Sensibly she switched pan off, switched extractor hood on and opened every window and door in the house, then she sat in the garden and cried. House stinks and I'm surrounding by yankee candles of various smells to clear the smell. And this lad is off to Japan on his own in less than 10 days....

Leeds2 · 13/07/2015 22:22

And what did you have for dinner, AuntP?!

DD is in Madagascar with school, on a 19 day biology/geography trip. I believe they get to count species of insect, wildlife etc and identify bird calls. We have lost wi fi connection now, but last I heard she was partaking of a yoga class on the beach at 5:30 am. Nice life! I never went abroad with my school. Not even on a day trip.

Horsemad · 13/07/2015 22:27

Leeds, is it OpWall she's doing?

auntpetunia · 13/07/2015 22:31

Oh leeds that's sounds fab, except the bit about the insects! We ended up at the chippy for tea, fortunately Monday is gluten free night (am coeliac ) so I had fish and chips other people had pie and chips. DS did all the dishes even the scouse pan which was black. He then went to bed at 7.30, when I spoke to him at 8, he was v v upet and kept saying g he could have burnt the house down and he was useless. I tried to be positive and kept saying well you didn't and no one died, that wasn't good enough, think he wanted to wallow in his misery a bit, so left him to it . He was asleep within 15 mins, dd on the other hand was awake ages and kept going over how smokey it was and how scared she was, so she's had lots of praise for doing all the right things. God kids are hard work.

Horsemad · 13/07/2015 22:35

Blimey AuntP, that's scary. He's probably feeling a bit daft, but I bet he won't forget to add water next time! Wink

PS, I love scouse, haven't had it for years. Grin Am going home next weekend, might ask my Mum to make it for tea! Smile

auntpetunia · 13/07/2015 22:40

Can I come to your mums? I was really looking forward to my scouse tonight had my beetroot and red cabbage all ready along with my brown sauce, would have been lovely in this horrible rain.

I'm sure he's feeling silly, and I hope it will teach him to follow instructions to the letter, I'm going to start getting him to cook one meal a week as way to get him used to the kitchen. Currently he just forages and eats cold stuff or toast.

Horsemad · 13/07/2015 22:55

Beetroot and red cabbage Grin

I really must make my two do some cooking, they just wait for me to do it Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 14/07/2015 00:33

I need to get mine cooking this summer too. She's far too good at pretending incompetence. HmmGrin She's squeamish about handling raw meat and hates fish so I think I need to get her a veggie cookbook.

She and DH are playing with electronics - the dining room table is covered in bits and a large sheet of mdf and some wood have appeared in the dining room. I think they only need a little bit to make a base for their contraption but I'm beginning to wonder! Anyway, I shouldn't be wittering here, got to get DH to the hospital for his op tomorrow by 7am.

LineRunner · 14/07/2015 03:11

Good luck for today, Errol Flowers

My DS is spending his days doing something involving podcasts.

I also feel some cookery lessons coming on!

auntpetunia · 14/07/2015 06:17

Good luck errol for today. Not liking the sound of your dining room. That would drive me mad.

Am awake at stupid o clock as the smell of burning is everywhere, Everytime ive rolled over in bed the bedding stinks, DS is going to be busy putting washing on today.

HSMMaCM · 14/07/2015 06:21

Good luck errol

Auntp that sounds grim.

LineRunner · 14/07/2015 06:26

I think it's just one of those life lessons, AuntP. Hopefully he'll never do that again.

Your DD was a star.

SugarPlumTree · 14/07/2015 06:31

I clocked a copy of Vegetarian grub on a grant on our bookshelf yesterday, might give DD that when she gets back - I've woken up and she is still going via email, have to admire her staying power but she is pissing me off now so told her that is enough. We were trying to celebrate DS's SATs results last night and the whole thing was punctuated with pleading emails from her, she seemed to think we could cough up 2k for her to spend an extra day.

I know she didn't know but felt a bit annoyed as it was DS's time to be in the spotlight so to speak. He has a habit of being a bit overshadowed as is very undemanding and I've noticed he is spending more time with us and taking more whilst she is away so need to ensure that continues.

Poor DS Auntpetunia (and DD and you).. DD got lost round the corner from her school the week she went and spent an hour nd ten mins trying to find her friend's house. If she is ok in Japan then your DS will be. And agree that he won't do that again and best to make that mistake on an occasion when you don't actually burn the house down.

Wow Leeds, that sounds like a fabulous trip (apart from the insects). They really do have an excellent lot of opportunities available to them now.

bigTillyMint · 14/07/2015 06:35

AuntP, glad the bug spray arrived OK - I did have a wobble when they asked if the contents were flammable, but obviously they were less dangerous than your DS in the kitchen! Good that he realised how stupid he had been, and that he is putting things right. My DD burned my brand-new wooden kitchen worktop before the kitchen was even finished last summer - not realising it was burning whilst she and mates danced around the kitchen with the music on full blast. Luckily I was planning to put a granite chopping board right on the place, but the mark is still there as a reminder!

Good Luck to your DH Errol.

SugarPlumGrin at international hissy fit - I keep wondering when the melt-downs will end and praying that they will end!

auntpetunia · 14/07/2015 06:39

line I can guarantee he'll never do it again Wink DD who is the most nervous person I know, did everything correctly even though she keeps saying I didn't know what to do. She is obviously did and did it well.
I'm going to sit do en with both of them later and talk about this as I can see it clouding the rest of the hols. They both dwell on things, which is something I don't do, hence my chat with DS last night, it's not the end of the world, the houses didn't burn down and no one died. I'm more interested in getting rid of the smell and sorting out packing, the 2 are linked as I think DSs scout shirt will stink as it was hanging in the hall along with other bits Id ironed.

SugarPlumTree · 14/07/2015 07:17

Missed that bit about your DH Erroll. Hope it goes well.

Guess the hisst fits end about 30 maybe or is that a tad optimistic? I am finding it reassuring to read about what the others get up to as it makes me fel a bit better about DD.

Grin at the bug spray being less dangerous than AP's DS in the kitchen and BTM's DD burning the work top before the kitchen was finished !

ErrolTheDragon · 14/07/2015 08:43

Sugar, implication is your DSs SATs results were good, well done him.

Leeds2 · 14/07/2015 09:33

Yes, Horsemad, DD is on the OpWall trip.

HSMMaCM · 14/07/2015 09:33

Sugar DD wants me to arrange for us to return a day early from our holiday, so she can dance a duet with one of her friends. She's threatening a hissy fit, but I think she knows it's probably not worth it and she can just be moody to 'punish' me for being so unreasonable Grin

Littleham · 14/07/2015 10:21

Oops AuntP. Sounds like a nightmare. I hate the smell of smoke too. What on earth is Scouse? How do you make it? Confused

Good luck to anyone going on trips. One of my other dc has been very ill (all over flat) in Spain and we have been trying to solve it via text. The charcoal tablets did the trick in the end.

HSMMaCM · 14/07/2015 10:28

Oh dear little ham hope your DC is ok
