Thinking of moving back to Devon only thing putting me of is school as eldest was bullied in 2 Primary Schools in Devon and don't want this to happen in secondary school which he will start this September. We haven't had this problem in the NE. I want to be near family and have a house still in Exeter but could move anywhere in Devon. Thanks

Uffculme has an excellent rep but you must be in the catchment

Owlysims · 24/04/2015 08:14

Also Torbay grammars

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 24/04/2015 08:15

I don't think bullying is an issue specific to Devon schools...

Are grammar schools likely to be of interest? What about state vs private?

ThatIsNachoCheese · 24/04/2015 08:17

Uffculme.
St Peters is supposed to be good.
In terms of Grammar I only know about Colyton Grammar.

Claudia1602 · 24/04/2015 16:42

Hi. Thanks for your help. Colyton I have read on some sites is almost impossible to get in. Uffculme sounds good. St Peters used to be a good school. I went to to Bishop Blackall which merged with Heles boys school and became St Peters. Used to be the school to go to but reading ofsted seems to have gone downhill a bit.

Wish I had the money to send kids to private school!

Colyton isn't impossible to get into. But it is very difficult if you are trying to get in not in Y7. For Y7 entry there are 124 places and usually about 400 kids apply. Much better odds than comparable super selectives.

Clyst Vale and QE are supposed to be good too, I know kids at both and they are doing well.

IsabellaRoarsome · 24/04/2015 18:47

I was going to suggest QE very good rep.

Sweetpea47 · 24/04/2015 18:57

QE was one of the schools I was looking at.

You have missed the grammar school tests, which take place around October of year 6. You would be best contacting the schools, explain you are moving into area and see if your ds can do a late entry test. Grammars are not impossible to get into and if you think he stands a chance it is worth giving it a go.

I went to QE and also went on to work there for several years after university. I'd highly recommend it. The intake is mainly kids from village primary schools, they have a fab SENCO and good student support in place for bullying etc. The way the age groups are split (yr 7&8 on one site, yrs 9-12 on a separate one) works really well IME and makes the transition from primary less scary. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions Smile

Fruit Owl do you know if there a school bus that takes pupils from tiverton to QE?

Sweetpea47 · 26/04/2015 16:52

Good question. Does bus run from Exeter to Crediton School

FruitOwl · 26/04/2015 19:13

Hi, yes I think there is a school bus from Tiverton. There is a public Stagecoach bus (no 5) that runs from Exeter to Crediton several times an hour.
